Overview Toyota Hilux BEV weights and payload

The electric Hilux is one of the first fully electric pick-up trucks from a major manufacturer. By that we mean a manufacturer that sell significant volumes of regular pick-up trucks all over the world.

The Hilux has a reputation for toughness and reliability, so an electric version is a bit of a leap of faith. It has to be right, and the numbers have to stack up.

A pick-up truck must usually need to carry one tonne for a pick-up to qualify as a proper commercial vehicle in the UK for tax purposes. Unfortunately, the Hilux BEV doesn't manage that, which is why the weights and payload of this electric truck must make sense for other reasons.

The big question is, will an electric pick-up truck like the Hilux work for you. Is its payload enough? Will you be able to carry what you need without getting overloaded.

The basic weights of the Hilux BEV is that it weights 2.4 tonnes, can carry just over 700kg, and has a GVW of just over 3.1 tonnes. We'll look into more of those details now.

What is the Toyota Hilux BEV payload

The Toyota Hilux BEV payload is 715kg.

That's a nice and straight forward figure, there's just one number, which is refreshing to know. However, we will caveat that with that this is the unhomologated payload number. So it is possible that it will change. But it's going to be roughly in that ball park.

What is the Toyota Hilux BEV weight?

The overall weight of the Toyota Hilux BEV ranges from 2,420kg up to 2455kg. This is a minor specification variance due to different options. That's not unusual.

Again these numbers are likely to be the finalised figures, but could also change in the homologation stage.

What is the gross weight of the Toyota Hilux BEV?

The overall weight, or gross vehicle weight, is the combined figure of the truck, plus its payload, plus the driver. That's the number which you'll need to know for things like weight restricted bridges.

The gross weight of the electric Hilux is between 3,135kg and 3,165kg.

For the specific weight of your truck it is best to check the plated label, usually found inside the driver or passenger door, or under the bonnet.

It's important to know the overall weight of your pick-up truck as the combination weight, or gross combination weight (GCW), will determine how much you can tow.
