Kia passes 100,000 UK electric vehicles sales as its electric share hits record high

Kia has surpassed 100,000 electric vehicle sales in the UK with the last year's PV5 commercial vehicle based electric van acounting for more than 1.5% of the total.

The 100,000th Kia electric vehicle sold in the UK was a Kia EV5 ‘GT-Line S’ finished in Iceberg Green, registered to a retail customer on 11 March 2026, but 1,673 of the milestone total have been versions of the PV5, which only went on sale last year.

The Kia PV5 Cargo and Kia PV5 Passenger were both revealed in the UK at the CV Show in April 2026 when order books were opened. Since then sales have steadily grown in a market where electric vans have so far failed to gain much traction.

The 100,000 sales comes during a record month for Kia, with fully electric models accounting for 29% of its UK registrations – the highest share that Kia has achieved to date.

The Kia EV6 is currently the best-selling model in the line-up, with more than 20% of the 100,000 sales. New models released last year, like the PV5, include the EV4 (2.9%) and EV5 (2.1%).

It has also been just over 2.5 years since Kia surpassed 50,000 electric vehicle sales.

A decade of EV growth

Kia’s UK EV journey began in November 2014 with the launch of the Kia Soul EV. Since then, Kia has steadily expanded its electric offering, reaching a total of 104,794 EV sales by 1 April 2026.

Growth has accelerated in recent years, driven by a rapid rollout of new electric models across multiple segments, including the PV5, its first electric van, and first commercial vehicle model on sale in the UK.

Expanding EV and Kia van line-up

During 2025 alone, Kia launched nine new models in the UK, and now offers seven dedicated EVx and PVx models, with further expansion planned. The entry-level EV2 will be the next new model, while the Kia van line-up will grow with a larger PV7 electric van that is scheduled to follow in 2027 with the Kia PV9 due in 2029.

Across its wider EV portfolio, Kia currently offers 11 electric models in the UK when including high-performance variants such as those based on the Kia EV6 and Kia EV9.

Paul Philpott, President and CEO, Kia UK: “The milestone of reaching 100,000 EV sales is a significant landmark for Kia UK, having launched our first EV 12 years ago this year. In a relatively short space of time, we have gone from strength to strength steadily building our EV line-up, and have seen customer demand increase in line with our product desirability.

“The mainstream adoption of EVs, and the transition to focus heavily on electric mobility poses challenges, but also presents opportunity, and we have spent a great deal of time and resources investing in EVs. We now have one of the industry’s most complete EV line-ups and have reached this landmark achievement, further cementing ourselves as a leading player in the EV market.

“This achievement is a further credit to our 190-strong nationwide dealer network. Their ability to adapt over the past decade to an increased demand for EVs, alongside our range of internal combustion and hybrid vehicles, has been the foundation for our success and has pushed us to this significant sales success and milestone. With the recent addition of electric commercial vehicles to our product offering, the future for Kia is very exciting.”
