Ford Explorer Van battery, charging and range guide
The Ford Explorer Van combines the long-range electric underpinnings of Ford’s Explorer EV with a practical commercial conversion aimed at fleets, engineers and infrastructure operators.
Unlike many traditional vans, the Explorer Van is designed primarily for operators covering high mileages between sites while carrying relatively modest amounts of cargo. As a result, battery size, charging speed and real-world efficiency are central to the vehicle’s appeal.

Ford quotes a maximum WLTP driving range of up to 374 miles for the Explorer Van, depending on specification.
The 77kWh rear-wheel drive version provides the longest range, and gives you nearly 200 miles more range than the Ford E-Transit Courier which Ford's fleet customers were using as an alternative prior to the introduction of the Explorer Van.
During our test drive of the Explorer Van we comfortably returned over 3 miles per kWh, giving us a range of more than 200 miles in the real world. That also included a bit of the usual rapid acceleration and braking you'd normally do while on a test, and a good number of faster motorway miles, which does tend to reduce the overall range.
The 270 miles claimed range is easily possible if you drive with care, but 230 miles is probably much more realistic, depending on your route and payload.
The Ford Explorer Van 25.75MY RWD uses a 77kWh battery pack, which is mounted beneath the floor and powers a rear-mounted electric motor producing with either 210kW of power and 545Nm of torque, or 250kW and 679Nm for an all-wheel-drive version.
The Explorer Van shares its underlying battery and platform technology with Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric architecture, which is also used by vehicles such as the Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo and Volkswagen ID.4.
The Ford Explorer Van supports AC charging through a standard CCS connection.
Using a standard 7kW AC wallbox, the vehicle can be charged overnight in roughly 11 hours, or around 7 hours using an 11kW three-phase supply.
For faster charging the Ford Explorer Van supports DC rapid charging at up to 135kW.
Ford says a 10-80% charge can be completed in approximately 25 minutes under ideal conditions.
Although the Explorer Van was conceived as an extended range alternative to the E-Transit Courier for a particular Blue Chip customer of Ford, there's still probably the need to find additional charging while en route.
