Citroen has marked the 30th anniversary of the Berlingo by unveiling a new entry-level variant called the Berlingo Van First.
The newcomer expands Citroen’s light commercial vehicle range with a more affordable offering aimed at businesses seeking practicality and low operating costs without sacrificing capability.
The launch is particularly significant because 2026 marks three decades since the original Berlingo transformed the compact van sector. In a nod to that heritage, Citroën has revived the “First” name previously associated with earlier Berlingo models.
The Berlingo remains central to Citroen’s commercial vehicle operations. The manufacturer says it accounted for 52% of its utility vehicle sales during 2025, making it the cornerstone of the brand’s van portfolio.

Designed around the everyday needs of professional users, the Van First adopts a simplified but highly practical approach. At the heart of the package is the Flexiseat passenger seat, which folds away to create up to 0.5m³ of additional cargo space within the cabin.
Citroen says its research showed drivers spend around 90% of their time travelling alone and rarely need a permanent three-seat configuration. The company believes the new layout therefore provides greater day-to-day usefulness than a conventional arrangement.
An optional Modutable system converts the passenger side into a mobile office, complete with space for a laptop or tablet. The unit can also be removed and stored within the load area.
Other available features include a Dashbox storage system, Moduconsole removable centre console, Drivedrawer under-seat storage compartment and Moduwork three-seat layout with load-through capability. A 220V socket is available for powering electronic devices.
Citroen has also redesigned the dashboard and door trims while introducing a more robust front bumper intended to better withstand the demands of working life.
Although positioned as the entry-level Berlingo, the Van First retains payloads of up to one tonne and load volumes of between 3.3m³ and 4.4m³.
Buyers can choose between electric, petrol and diesel powertrains, while a mild-hybrid variant is due next year.
The new model will go on sale from September.
