Ford Motor Company has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest parade of vans today.
A huge convoy of Ford Transit vans set off around the UK home of Ford in Dunton, Essex, as part of the Ford Transit’s 60th birthday celebrations.
The Transit turned 60 in August and today’s World Record attempt was the main attraction of the Transit Festival, held at Chelmsford Race Course.
A whopping 201 Transit vans managed to form a convoy and driver around the Dunton track, more than doubling the previous record of 100 vans.
Ford Pro UK MD Mandy Dean and Ford Pro Europe general manager Hans Schep were on hand to not only take part in the convoy but to be officially recognised by Guiness World Records as Ford Motor Company secured the title of “Officially Amazing” Record Holder.
The record breaking procession of Transit vans then headed straight to Transit Festival, where even more Ford fans had congregated to celebrate 60 years of Transit, with a huge entertainment stage, show vans and plenty of fun.
Amongst the various areas were Transit vans from throughout the ages, the MS-RT Zone for the sporty pimped-up vans and a huge marquee the star of which was a live remote control car, van and pick-up truck race that festival goers could take part in.
As well as informative workshops and panel discussions there were try-outs for top tradespeople, which included laying bricks. There were also appearances by Wheeler Dealer Mike Brewer, supermodel Jodie Kidd and Van Reviewer’s favourite Transit expert Peter Lee, founder of the Transit Van Owners Club.
Entertainment came courtesy of Luna Rays, Definitely Could Be Oasis and Tom Walker.
There was even an appearance by the world’s Hardest Geezer Russ Cook, the first person ever to run the full length of Africa. Crazy geezer, more like.
If only he’d had a Transit van he’d have done it in a fraction of the time.
