Landscapers have been crowned the UK’s fittest tradespeople, according to new research from Citroën.
The nationwide survey of 1,000 tradespeople found they walk an average of more than 12,000 steps a day and unsurprisingly often lift heavy loads as part of their daily routine.
The survey which included responses from builders, plumbers, roofers and electricians, revealed that 73% consider themselves physically fit, while 88% say their work is physically demanding, but it was the landscapers that topped the Citroën “fittest trade” list, followed by plumbers and carpenters.
Citroen's study also showed that tradespeople take fitness seriously beyond the job site.
Over three quarters (77%) said they enjoy the level of exercise their work gives them, and 65% still hit the gym at least once a week outside of work.
Bricklayers led the way, with 28% saying they train most days, while landscapers, bricklayers and roofers spend more than four hours exercising outside work each week.
Citroën’s findings come as part of its partnership with England Athletics and the Personal Best Foundation, aimed at promoting physical activity and wellbeing across the UK.
While clearly not worried about payload, a surprising 33% of tradespeople said they keep weights in their vans in order to do a workout, on the job.

The top five list of "fit" trades is below, but do you agreee? We're suprised to see plumbers so high up, but I suppose if you have to run around a house bleeding radiators that's going to keep the step-count up.
We'd also expect plasters to feature higher on the list, although with such a lopsided trade, maybe they're more suited to being being tennis players like the Kia brand ambassador Rafa Nadal who's just notched up 21 years as their sponsor.
