The Ford Ranger is comfortably the UK’s most popular pick-up, loved by everyone because it combines rugged off-road ability with the everyday practicality of a family vehicle and has the size and dimensions to be great whatever the circumstance.
In this guide we'll look, in detail, at the Ford Ranger dimensions for a double cab pick-up and break down its exact exterior dimensions, load bed measurements and ground clearance. The aim is to give buyers millimetre precise measurements to help you decide whether the Ranger suits your needs and most important of all if the size will will fit the space you need.
These figures apply to the XL, XLT and Wildtrak trims in UK specification, for the latest version of the Ranger built from 2022 onwards - that's the T6 platform that gets the C-shaped headlights.
Pictured is the Ranger Tremor, which is a more premium off-road model, but it too shares the same dimensions and other sizes as the above models. There are additional guides on the higher spec models, as the Ranger line-up is getting pretty big and hard to handle all in one document. Head to the dimensions page for the Ford Reviews homepage to find those.
The Ford Ranger double cab is built on a ladder-frame chassis and measures over 5.3m in length. The Ranger is just over 2m in width with its mirrors folded and has a height of 1.89m. ;
In the upcoming sections we'll look at the overall length of the Ford Ranger, its width and the height, to give you the specifics. There's also The following sections outline each key measurement – length, width, height, load bed dimensions, load bed area and ground clearance.
Across all three trims – XL, XLT and Wildtrak – the overall length of the Ford Ranger double cab pick-up is 5,370 mm.
There's just one wheelbase lengths, measuring 3,270 mm and it has a front overhang of 865 mm and a rear overhang of 1,215 mm.
The measurements for the Ranger are identical across the three trims, entry-level XL, XLT and Wildtrak.

|---|---|
| Overall length | 5,370 |
| Wheelbase | 3,270 |
| Front overhang | 865 |
| Rear overhang | 1,215 |
The Ranger is definitley not a small truck, but it's not as wide as it might look. The overall body width of the truck is just over 2m, that's for the mirrors folded in. You can assume that the bodywork itself is a little narrower, because the mirrors actually protrude slightly beyond the perimeter of the truck. That probably makes the width of the Ranger bodywork closer to 1.92m.
With the mirrors folded out, the Ranger body width including mirrors measures 2.2m.
Here are the precise mm measurements for the Ford Ranger width.

| Ford Ranger | Width (mm) |
|---|---|
| Mirrors extended | 2,208 |
| Mirrors folded | 2,015 |
The overall height of the Ford Ranger for the XL, XLT and Wildtrak trims is 1,886 mm. That's the measured height for an unladen pick-up truck. That means there is no difference in roof height across all of these trims, unless optional roof rails or accessories are fitted.
However... beware if you've changed the wheels, because the Ranger can accomodate a wide range of wheel sizes, so if you've gone up in alloy size or put on chunkier tyres, you're going to have altered the overall height of the Ranger.
| Ford Ranger | Height (mm) |
|---|---|
| XL | 1,886 |
| XLT | 1,886 |
| Wildtrak | 1,886 |
This height allows the Ranger to fit within most multi-storey car park limits while still providing excellent ground clearance underneath.
Practicality is a key reason for choosing the Ford Ranger pick-up truck, and even as a double cab, with two rows of seats you get a huge amount of space in the load bed.
Ford's official dimensions for the load bed floor give an overall width of 1,560mm, a width between wheel arches of 1,224mm and a sidewall height of 529mm. The Ranger's load bed length at the floor is 1,638 mm.

| Ford Ranger | Dimensions (mm) |
|---|---|
| Load bed length at floor level | 1,638 |
| Width at floor | 1,560 |
| Width between wheel arches | 1,224 |
| Sidewall depth | 529 |
Using the published figures for the Ford Ranger load bed dimensions we can work out that the overall load bed area between the wheel arches equates to around 1.87 m², while the full bed area (edge-to-edge) is approximately 2.56 m².
| Ford Ranger | Bed Length (mm) | Bed Width (mm) | Bed Area (m²) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Between wheel arches | 1,638 | 1,139 | 1.87 |
| Full width | 1,638 | 1,560 | 2.56 |
Ground clearance for the UK specification Ranger Double Cab in XL, XLT and Wildtrak trims is 230mm. This allows for a wading depth of up to 800 mm.
| Metric | Measurement (mm) |
|---|---|
| Ground clearance (unladen) | 237 |
| Maximum wading depth | 800 |
Yes, but only just. The width between the wheel arches is 1,224mm, slightly bigger than a Euro pallet’s 1,200mm side. However, the 1,638mm bed length means a Euro pallet can fit lengthways with ease. So either make sure the item on the pallet is exactly within the confines of the pallet, or just load it the other way.
