Munro gets first pre-production model on the road

November 16, 2023

Munro Vehicles has unveiled its first pre-production model, the Series-M 4x4 Utility (hard top).

The first production unit comes just ten months after the reveal of the MK_1 prototype pick-up truck in December 2022.

Munro's production marks a return to light vehicle mass production in Scotland, a milestone not seen since the closure of the Linwood car plant in 1981. The Series-M Utility showcases innovations inspired by customer feedback, also benefiting the concurrently produced Series-M Truck (open-bed).

Marcus Mackle, Munro head of vehicle sales, said: "The Series-M Utility's entry into mass production is not only a pivotal moment for Munro but also a historical one for Scotland. It marks the revival of light vehicle mass production, absent since 1981."

The pre-production rollout signifies the next phase in Munro's strategic vision to manufacture 2500 vehicles annually, creating an additional 300 jobs in Scotland by 2027 to support global sales. With a robust two-year customer order book valued at £68 million, Munro aims to capitalize on the global market opportunity, catering to sectors like agriculture, construction, defense, disaster relief, and forestry.

The Series-M gets a full suite of safety features, including airbags, ABS brakes, stability, and traction control. The Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack enhances durability, offering a swift 30-minute, 130kW DC rapid charging time. The vehicle, engineered for 50 years of service with routine maintenance and planned refurbishment, promises zero-tailpipe emissions and optimum off-road performance.

Munro has received over 250 pre-orders for both Utility and Truck models, indicating strong market demand, particularly in sectors requiring radical solutions for meeting decarbonization targets.

As Munro looks ahead, the completion of the Series-M Utility underscores its commitment to pioneering electric 4x4s, contributing to a sustainable automotive future. The global rollout of Munro's Series-M signifies a new era in Scottish automotive excellence, combining innovation, customer feedback, and environmental responsibility.
