Skywell records best-ever UK Sales but still no new van

Skywell has reported its strongest UK sales performance since launching in 2025, with registrations rising more than 550% year-on-year as demand for its BE11 electric SUV grows, but plans for the Skywell 233 van appear to have stalled.

Skywell UK has reported its strongest sales performance since entering the British market, with May 2026 delivering the highest monthly registration figures in the company’s short history.

That's no surprise, as starting from nothing they were always likely to set growth records, however, the result comes off the back of a sustained period of growth for the Chinese electric vehicle brand, which launched in the UK in January 2025 with its flagship BE11 electric SUV.

According to Skywell, registrations during the first quarter of 2026 increased by 214% compared with the same period last year. Growth has accelerated further during the second quarter, with registrations currently running more than 550% ahead of 2025 levels.

Skywell attributes much of its recent momentum to updates introduced for the 2026 model year BE11, alongside a package of retail incentives designed to make electric vehicle ownership more accessible.

There's a £3,750 EV Switch Incentive, which has been introduced to provide customers with support comparable to higher-tier government EV grant programmes. Buyers can also benefit from a £500 test-drive voucher and a further £500 contribution towards their first year’s insurance through a partnership with automotive insurance specialist Adrian Flux.

But the company's website still doesn't have complete details of the van that is meant to be launched this year. Despite being pictured on the homepage of the Skywell website, the Skywell 233 van is still absent from the brochure of test drive sections of the website.

What is the Skywell van?

Earlier this year Skywell confirmed that its all-new large electric van will launch in the UK, marking the brand’s formal entry into the British commercial vehicle market.

Known as the Hongtu in China and previewed at the 2024 Paris Motor Show before appearing at the 2025 Busworld Expo, the van will be sold in the UK as the Skywell 233. Final UK specification and pricing will be announced closer to launch.

The 233 is Skywell’s first globally developed commercial vehicle and has been engineered specifically with European markets in mind. It blends Skywell’s heavy-duty vehicle manufacturing background with digital systems expertise from its parent group.

The Skywell 233 will enter the UK as a 4.25-tonne GVM electric panel van, targeting operators that require maximum payload without compromising on battery capacity.

It is powered by a 101kWh lithium iron phosphate battery manufactured in-house by Skysource, using CATL modules. A 150kW permanent magnet synchronous motor delivers 370Nm of torque and 201PS to the rear wheels.

Charging capability includes up to 22kW AC and 120kW DC rapid charging, with a claimed 20 to 80 per cent recharge time of under 50 minutes. Subject to final Whole Vehicle Type Approval, the 233 is targeting a WLTP range of around 350 to 400km when tested at 50 per cent payload.

Maximum payload is quoted at up to 1,395kg.

Skywell 233 specification

The Skywell 233 will arrive with a generous standard specification, including:

  • 8-inch colour LCD instrument cluster
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Intelligent Speed Assist
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • HD reversing camera and rear sensors

Interior highlights include a heated leather multi-function steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging and air conditioning with PM2.5 filtration. Ambient lighting and upgraded trim options are also available.

Full UK pricing and detailed specification should be confirmed ahead of its showroom debut later this year.
