Volkswagen adds electric people carriers to new Transporter range

Volkswagen has expanded its latest Transporter line-up with the launch of all-electric versions of its eight-seater Shuttle and Kombi models for the first time.
The new electric vans are now available to order in the UK and are aimed at operators looking to switch to zero-emission vehicles.
The new Volkswagen Transporter Shuttle BEV, designed as a people carrier, comes with eight seats as standard, with the option to upgrade to nine.
Volkswagen says it is targeting the model at large families as well as professional private hire and taxi firms.
Powered by a 65kWh battery, the electric Shuttle has a claimed driving range of up to 194 miles on a single charge. Prices will start from £56,129.
It is joined in the new range, which is built on the Ford Transit Custom platform, by the Transporter Kombi BEV (pictured above), which is designed to carry both passengers and equipment.
It gets five seats as standard, a payload of up to 896kg and a slightly longer range of up to 196 miles. Prices for the Transporter Kombi BEV will start at £53,404.
Both the Shuttle (below) and Kombi are available in either a short or long wheelbase.
