Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled a comprehensive update for its Caravelle passenger van, introducing a redesigned exterior, upgraded interior technology and a host of new comfort and safety features.
The refreshed model builds on the Caravelle’s long-standing reputation as a premium shuttle and passenger transport vehicle, while introducing a more modern design language and significantly enhanced driver assistance technology.
Volkswagen has also revealed that the Multivan name will be dropped on future models, replaced by the name Caravelle.
At the front, the Caravelle receives larger LED headlights with a completely new internal structure and light signature. The daytime running lights now form a more pronounced eyebrow design, while higher-specification models feature an illuminated strip running across the front fascia. Volkswagen says the new headlights offer improved brightness, a wider beam pattern and enhanced cornering illumination.
The front bumper has also been redesigned, with the air intakes integrated into a cleaner, more aerodynamic structure. New vertical air curtains at the outer edges further improve airflow while helping to create a broader visual stance.
Inside, the biggest changes are found in the cockpit. A newly designed dashboard incorporates upgraded materials, contrast stitching and a revised layout centred around a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Digital Cockpit has also been updated, offering multiple display layouts that can be customised by the driver.
Like the ID Buzz, the Caravelle now adopts a steering-column-mounted gear selector, freeing up space in the centre console. Wireless smartphone charging is standard, with charging power increased from 5W to 25W, while USB-C charging outputs rise to 60W.
The updated Caravelle also benefits from the latest version of Volkswagen’s Travel Assist system. New functions include traffic light recognition and assisted lane changing on motorways. Integrated Emergency Assist can automatically bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if the driver becomes incapacitated.
Volkswagen has also revised the seating options. For the first time, the eight-seat version can be specified with a vis-Ã -vis arrangement, allowing passengers in the rear rows to sit facing each other. Life and Style models also gain twin armrests on second-row seats.
Under the bonnet, customers can choose between a 150PS diesel engine, a 204PS petrol engine or Volkswagen’s 245PS eHybrid 4MOTION plug-in hybrid system. The latter combines all-wheel drive with a 19.7kWh battery pack.
The Caravelle range will now consist of Trend, Life and Style trim levels, joined by a new Generation special edition model.
Available with exclusive styling and equipment upgrades, the Generation can also be specified in a unique Candy White and Sunset Red metallic two-tone paint finish reserved exclusively for the model.
Volkswagen will continue to offer the Caravelle in two body lengths.
