Volkswagen has unveiled the long-wheelbase version of its Volkswagen ID Buzz.
The larger all-electric ID Buzz gets a third row of seats enabling it to transport up to seven people. The extended wheelbase also allows for an optional larger battery pack.
The ID Buzz with long wheelbase can have a battery of up to 85kWh.
There is currently no indication as to when a long-wheelbase version of the Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo will be launched.
Naturally, there's a change to the Volkswagen ID Buzz dimensions. The increased size of the ID Buzz means that the long-wheelbase version will have a total length of 4,962 mm. That is the result of an increase to the chassis wheelbase of 250 mm. As well as allowing a third row of seats to be added, the additional space gives the car up to 2,469 litres of storage space.
Also getting an increase is the electric motor for the ID Buzz long-wheelbase with a new 210kW power rating, the equivalent to 286hp. That’s an increase over the current ID Buzz and ID Buzz Cargo’s rating of 150kW.
An additional 250kW version called the ID Buzz GTX with an all-wheel-drive driveline (front and rear motors) will have an output of 250kW (339hp) and is due to be revealed in 2024. It is claimed that the Volkswagen ID Buzz GTX will have a 0-62mph time of just 6.4 seconds.
Other changes for the large electric Buzz include a new head-up display. There’s also an upgrade to the infotainment system. The ID Buzz with its next-generation infotainment system also gets the ability to remote parking via smartphone app.
Features exclusive to the ID Buzz long-wheelbase include a a newly designed high-tech panoramic sunroof. It has new smart glass that can be change to be either opaque or transparent. The controls for the smart glass can be done with either a touch slider or a new voice assistant. Its 1.5m2 size makes it the largest glass roof ever built by VW
The US will be the first country to get the new ID Buzz in 2024, and its versions will also feature air-conditioned seats and an illuminated Volkswagen logo on the front.
