Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has updated the entry-level version of the ID. Buzz Cargo, giving it a longer range, more power and a significantly lower list price.

The previous 59kWh model has been replaced by a new 58kWh version. Despite the slightly smaller battery, improvements to battery efficiency have increased the official WLTP range from 201 to 218 miles - a gain of 17 miles. Power also rises from 170PS to 190PS.

Perhaps the biggest change though is in the price. The new model starts at £29,995 (excluding VAT), making it £5,655 cheaper than the outgoing 59kWh version.

The van also continues to qualify for the Government’s £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant, reducing the price of an ID Buzz Cargo even further.

What else has changed?

Volkswagen has also introduced vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability across the entire ID. Buzz Cargo range.

The system provides a continuous 2kW power supply, with a peak output of 3.6kW, allowing users to run equipment directly from the van’s traction battery.

A three-pin socket is mounted in the load area and can be accessed from both the side loading door and rear doors, making it suitable for powering tools, laptops, lighting or even a kettle on site.

This could remove the need to carry a separate portable generator or power station for many tradespeople and businesses.

The ID. Buzz Cargo also receives Volkswagen’s latest ID. Software 6.0 infotainment system.

The update also introduces an integrated app store, allowing drivers to download services including parking, charging and media streaming directly to the vehicle.

Volkswagen has added Connected Travel Assist to the ID Buzz Cargo, which uses online data to enhance the van’s driver assistance systems. One new function enables the vehicle to recognise traffic lights and automatically stop when a red signal is detected.

Contract Hire offers start from £239 per month based on a two-year, 5,000-mile-per-year non-maintained agreement, with a customer initial rental of £2,151.
