Welcome to our comprehensive guide to the Renault Kangoo dimensions where you'll be able to find out the Kangoo height, length and width.
We'll detail all the dimensions of the Renault Kangoo along with the key Kangoo sizes, wheelbase lengths and internal dimensions.
So, what is the Renault Kangoo? It's one of the most popular city vans in Europe and is also a shared product with the Mercedes-Benz Citan. That means the Mercedes-Benz Citan dimensions are almost identical to the dimensions of the Renault Kangoo.
The Kangoo has been around for decades, but this guide covers the Renault Kangoo sizes for the newest generation van from 2023 onwards.
Let's start with the most commonly asked question about the Renault Kangoo's size.
The Renault Kangoo is available in two sizes, medium and long wheelbase. The medium wheelbase van has a length of 4.49m and the long wheelbase van is 4.91m in length.
The Renault Kangoo is a compact city van with overall dimensions of up to 4.9m in length, 1.86m in height and 1.86m width.
The Kangoo's load compartment storage area can accomodate up to 4.2m3 and has a maximum length of 2.2m, height of 1.2m and width of 1.57m at its widest part.
The medium wheelbase (L1) Kangoo van has an overall length of 4.49m, with a total height of 1.86m and width of 1.86m.
The internal loadpsace dimensions of the Kangoo medium wheelbase are 1.81m in length, 1.21m in height and up to 1.57m at the widest part of the van.
As the bigger of the two models on offer you'll often hear the long wheelbase (LWB) van called a Maxi. This is because once upon a time that was the official name given to the larger van.
The following sizes thererfore refer to the Renault Kangoo Maxi dimensions.
The Renault Kangoo long wheelbase (L2) van has an overall length of 4.91m, with a total height of 1.85m and width of 1.86m.
The internal dimensions of the Kangoo long wheelbase van's loadspace are 2.23m in length, 1.21m in height and 1.57m at the widest point in the rear of the van.
We'll now proceed to break down the Renault Kangoo's individual dimensions starting with the height.
The Renault Kangoo's overall height is 1864mm which is the highest quoted height from the manufacturer. This is for an an unladen vehicle on standard tyres and has the medium wheelbase van.
There's no H2 (high roof) option for the Kangoo, so 1864mm is the highest a Kangoo is likely to be.
That's reassuring to know if you need to navigate a height restricted area like an underground car park.
The height of your Kangoo could also vary depending on the load you are carrying and the tyres you have. It's also important to remember if you have a roof rack fitted.
Also don't assume the signs are correct, as height restrictions were probably only correct when they were first put up. If a contractor has come along and resurfaced the road you could be looking at a very different height.
There's also a small variation in the height of the Renault Kangoo depending on the model. The larger long wheelbase van has a slightly higher kerbweight and therefore weighs the van down slightly more on its suspension.
Because of this the Renault Kangoo height for the long wheelbase van is 1854mm. That's 10mm or 1cm less than the standard van.
Other important facts to know about the Kangoo are its loadspace loading height of 635mm for the medium van and 613mm for the long wheelbase model.
The Renault Kangoo's ground clearance is 160mm for the long wheelbase and 182mm for the standard van.
The Renault Kangoo’s internal loadspace and cargo area maximum height is 1215mm.
This is the floor to ceiling height of the standard van and is the same for both the medium and long wheelbase vans.
Although the Kangoo's rear is essentially a cube, but there’s a slight curve to the roof, so the edges are fractionally less than the full height.
The Renault Kangoo width is 1860mm at its widest point. this is the wheelarch to wheel arch measurement across the van.
Including the mirrors the Renault Kangoo width is 2159mm.
The third figure on the diagram below is the track measurement of the axles which is 1584mm.
Likewise, the rear track width is 1597mm.
The width just above the sill and entrace to the rear loadspace compartment is 1256mm, while the same width of the rear apperture narrows slightly to 1196mm at 700mm above the sill height. This is essentially the narrowest point of the rear loadspace entrance.
The Renault Kangoo’s internal width of the cargo area is 1524mm at its widest point, which is to say that this is the maximum width of the cargo space.
It's the point between the sliding door(s) where the van is at its largest.
The usable space between the wheelarches of the Kangoo is slightly less with a maximum width between the wheel arches of 1248mm.
There are two sizes to the Renault Kangoo van with a standard size model and long wheelbase (LWB) version. The standard Kangoo van has a total length of 4,498mm. That’s roughly the size of a mid-size SUV. It’s built on a wheelbase measuring 2716mm – that’s important to know when it comes to the larger Kangoo L2 or LWB van.
The Kangoo has a rear overhang of 810mm – that’s the distance from the centre of the rear axle to the rear of the van. The Kangoo’s front overhang is 972mm – that’s from the front axle to the very tip of its nose.
The Renault Kangoo is just under 4.5m long with a useable maximum loadspace / cargo length of just over 1.8m
The Renault Kangoo has a considerably bigger loadspace than the previous generation van but the rear loadspace has actually got slightly shorter. This is to give the front occupants more space.
The medium wheelbase Renault Kangoo cargo dimensions allow for a loadspace of length of up to 1810mm which is amongst the larger sizes for compact vans.
The long wheelbase Renault Kangoo has a loadspace of length of up to 2230mm giving an additional 420mm of rear storage space.
The rear loadspace of the Kangoo has a nifty trick up its sleeve with a unique Easy Inside Rack that allows you to lift items off the floor and utilise the full length of the van at head height.
The Easy Inside Rack allows up to 2088mm of storage in the MWB van and as much as 2514mm in the LWB model. This is because it uses the space above the driver and passenger seats to maximise the lengths it can carry.
Now that you've found out the total size of the Renault Kangoo and all of its dimensions it's time to get down to the overall capacity of the vans.
The Renault Kangoo MWB van has a load volume of 3.3m3 with a fixed bulkhead.
The Renault Kangoo LWB van has a load volume of 4.2m3 with a fixed bulkhead.
