Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened its 100th franchised car sales site in the UK, marking another major milestone in the brand’s fast-growing presence across the country.
BYD, which is now the world’s largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles (including fully electric and plug-in hybrid models) launched its first UK retail outlet in April 2023.
That means that in just two and a half years, BYD has built a nationwide network to support its rapidly growing line-up and customer base.
Recent dealership openings in Canterbury, Chichester, Croydon, Ipswich and St Albans have helped the brand reach near-complete coverage of the UK.
BYD says the average drive time to the nearest showroom is now just 27 minutes, allowing customers easy access to view and test-drive its latest models.
Steve Beattie, BYD UK’s sales and network director, said the milestone reflected both the brand’s momentum and strong retailer partnerships.
“I’m hugely proud to see us reach this remarkable milestone for BYD in the UK in such a short space of time,” he said. “It’s testament to the appeal of our cars and their cutting-edge levels of technology, such as our Super Hybrid DM-i cars, including the high-selling Seal U SUV and electric cars such as the award-winning Dolphin Surf supermini.”
He added that the achievement was also “proof of the strength of the relationships with our retailer partners and their hard work and dedication in driving the brand forwards,” ensuring BYD cars are now “seen up and down the country in ever-increasing numbers.”
BYD’s rapid UK rollout mirrors its global expansion, as the brand continues to challenge established carmakers with a range of affordable electric vehicles.
Currently there are no plans for its electric van, the BYD E-Vali (pictured) to be launched in this country. The E-Valie was revealed in September last year, but a roll out across Europe has not see the large electric van yet reach all markets.
