The Isuzu D-Max is getting a bigger 2.2-litre diesel engine, with more torque and a new eight-speed auto. Here’s what’s changed.
Isuzu will replace its 1.9-litre turbodiesel with a new 2.2-litre turbo when it makes its official debut later this month at the Commercial Vehicle Show.
The new D-Max gets more torque, as well as design and equipment upgrades.
Due to arrive in UK showrooms from July 2026, the revised pick-up replaces the long-serving 1.9-litre diesel with a larger 2.2-litre turbocharged unit which will deliver stronger performance and usability.
The new engine produces 400Nm, up from 360Nm in the current 1.9-litre, giving the D-Max a useful boost in pulling power for its 3.5-tonne towing capacity and one-tonne payload.
D-Max also gets a new eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the current six-speed transmission.
Isuzu has also added to the D-Max range for 2026 with a new DL40 Extended Cab body. The updated model will now be available in Single Cab, Double Cab and Extended Cab sizes.
The new DL40 Extended Cab gives buyers a longer usable load area without dropping to a lower trim level.

That will make the DL40 Extended cab more appealing to drivers who want more practicality than a double cab, but many of the benefits and higher trim specification found in more expensive trim models like the V-Cross.
The 2026 D-Max will also get a visual refresh, with a new front grille, updated front and rear light signatures and a new Urban Moss metallic paint finish offered on the range-topping V-Cross.
There will also be a number of spec upgrades across the range.
A Driver Monitoring System is now standard, while DL40 and V-Cross models get a 360-degree surround view camera, new alloy wheels and updated side steps.
On the inside, Isuzu has tweaked the trims of several models with with new cloth seat designs for DL20 models and revised leather upholstery for DL40 and V-Cross variants.
Isuzu will also fit new Dunlop low rolling resistance tyres to help improve efficiency while also increasing grip in wet conditions.
The updated D-Max will be shown publicly for the first time at the Commercial Vehicle Show, which takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 21 to 23 April.
Alan Able, MD at Isuzu UK, said: “We’re delighted to formally present the much-anticipated 2.2-litre Isuzu D-Max, with an all-new powertrain, design enhancements and additional features.
“The New Isuzu D-Max continues to deliver on its strong reputation, stepping up a level to combine its highly versatile load-carrying and towing capabilities both on- and off-road.
“As well as the increased torque enabled by the 2.2-litre engine, the New Isuzu D-Max retains and builds upon its exceptional reliability in commercial and rural environments.”
The new Isuzu D-Max is available to pre-order now, with first UK deliveries expected from July 2026.
Full pricing and specification will be confirmed at the CV Show, although Isuzu has said the range will start from £33,495 CVOTR.
