Volkswagen is adding a range of new games to its AirConsole In-Car App that will let van drivers become gamers in their breaks.
The app makes it possible to stream online games while charging or during other breaks, with current versions of the ID Buzz, ID Buzz Cargo, Caddy, Multivan, California and Crafter now able to turn their infotainment system into a games console.

Previously there have been games that are permanently installed on the infotainment system and controlled via the touchscreen and the multifunction steering wheel. However, the AirConsole now transforms the infotainment system and a user's smartphone into a real gaming platform.
A new range of games can be streamed online, allowing passengers to compete against each other in a parked vehicle using their smartphones. It's just like a normal games console and controllers you'd find in your home, except up to eight players can take part - assuming there's space for them in your car or van.
A total of 15 new games have been added to the platform from partners including N-Dream and Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.
The fifteen games can be streamed free of charge (with an active VW Connect Plus contract), are already now available to play. One of the best-known games on the AirConsole is the classic PAC-MAN Championship Edition.
Other titles include Go-Kart Go! Air, Trivia Crack, Ludo, Tumblestone, Friends Quiz and Gosso.
AirConsole is a cloud-based video game console that uses smartphones as gamepads and a computer, tablet, or in this case infotainment system, as the console screen.
It's designed for local multiplayer gaming, which allows friends and family to play together using their own phones. No additional hardware is needed, just a browser and the AirConsole app installed on your smartphones.
