Volkswagen is set to unveil the latest version of its Grand California campervan at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf at the end of this month.
The refreshed model, which is based on the latest Volkswagen Crafter platform, features a new interior look and several other upgrades.
The 2026 Grand California, which will be available later this autumn, will introduce a new "Atami Bamboo" wood finish for the kitchen and dining areas along with a redesigned black kitchen tap and new PVC flooring, which VW says aims to create a more modern, lounge-like atmosphere inside the vehicle.
The interior has also been designed to evoke a "Mediterranean yacht character".
Beyond the aesthetic changes, Volkswagen has focused on several small key details to help improve the overall campervan experience.
For the first time, the interior dining table can be detached and used outdoors. There's also new luggage nets, which have also been added to the upper cabinets to provide more convenient storage for clothes and other items.
Additionally, a new optional blackout and thermal mat set is available for the cab windows, designed to help regulate temperature.
The new Grand California is built on the latest version of the Volkswagen Crafter, which has also undergone a recent upgrade with a new cabin and dash layout.
Standard features now include a "Digital Cockpit Pro" and a new infotainment system with a 10.4-inch touchscreen.
The campervan version of the Crafter van will also benefit from the complete range of driver assistance systems, which inlcude "Front Assist" emergency braking, "Lane Assist" lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition.
An electronic parking brake has also now replaced the traditional handbrake lever, making it easier for the driver's seat to be swivelled around to face the living area. The Grand California is entirely based on the Volkswagen Crafter dimensions, however, additional height has been added to create a new living space.
The updated Grand California will be showcased alongside other new campervan models at the Caravan Salon from August 29th to September 7th.
