Isuzu upgrades D-Max with new 2.2-litre diesel and eight-speed auto, increasing power to 163hp and 400Nm
Isuzu UK has updated its D-Max pick-up for 2026, introducing a new 2.2-litre diesel engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox as part of a wider refresh.
Revealed at the Commercial Vehicle Show, last week, the revised D-Max replaces the long-serving 1.9-litre unit with a larger 2.2-litre turbo diesel, producing 163PS and 400Nm of torque.
The increase in torque is aimed at improving towing and off-road performance, while maintaining the model’s core appeal to commercial users and farmers.

The new engine is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, alongside the option of a six-speed manual. The D-Max continues to offer a 3.5-tonne towing capacity and payload of up to 1,205kg, keeping it competitive in the one-tonne pick-up segment.
On-the-fly four-wheel drive system allows drivers to switch between two- and four-wheel drive at speeds of up to 62mph, while low-range four-wheel drive, rear differential lock and Rough Terrain Mode remain standard across the range.
The 2026 update also brings a revised model line-up. Utility models are available in Single and Extended Cab forms, while DL20, DL40 and V-Cross grades focus on Double Cab configurations, with DL40 also now offered as an Extended Cab.
There's also a redesigned front grille which is now fully black on Utility models. DL40 and V-Cross models gain new LED headlight accents and updated fog lamp surrounds, while rear lighting and camera housing have also been revised.
New sidesteps are fitted to higher-spec models, and an Urban Moss metallic paint colour joins the range.
Inside, the focus is on material upgrades rather than layout changes. DL20 models receive higher-grade cloth trim, while DL40 and V-Cross models come with leather upholstery as standard.
Technology has been updated too. DL40 and V-Cross models now feature a 360-degree surround view camera system, using cameras mounted in the grille, mirrors and tailgate.
Safety upgrades include a new Driver Monitoring System, adding features such as Advanced Driver Distraction warning and Emergency Lane Keeping assistance, using an infra-red camera mounted on the steering column.
Isuzu has also revised the tyre specification, with new Dunlop low rolling resistance tyres claimed to improve fuel efficiency and wet grip by 7%.
