Electric Isuzu D-MAX EV pick-up lands in the UK with full-time 4WD, 160-mile range and 3.5-tonne max towing capacity

The first fully electric pick-up from Isuzu has made its show debut in the UK as details for the new D-Max EV are confirmed ahead of customer deliveries next month.

Unveiled in right-hand drive at the Commercial Vehicle Show, the D-Max EV becomes the first electric pick-up in the UK to combine a payload of over one tonne with a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.

The D-Max EV uses a 66.9kWh battery and dual-motor setup, producing a combined 149.3kW and 347.6Nm of torque. Power is split across both axles, delivering permanent four-wheel drive rather than a selectable system.

The D-Max EV has a WLTP combined range of 163 miles and reaches 62mph in 10.1 seconds with a top speed of just over 80mph.

AC charging is at up to 11kW, which takes around six hours to charge the battery, while a 50kW DC rapid charge will take the battery from 20 to 80% in around an hour.

Underneath, Isuzu has retained the ladder chassis format, reinforcing it to handle payload demands and increasing the gross vehicle weight. There's also a new De-Dion rear suspension which replaces the traditional leaf setup and is aimed at improving ride quality and refinement without compromising load capability.

Off-road credentials remain. There's a ground clearance of 210mm, wading depth of 600mm, and approach and departure angles are 30.5 and 24.2 degrees respectively. Rough Terrain Mode is standard, alongside multiple regenerative braking settings.

The model line-up mirrors the diesel range, with eDL40 and eV-Cross trims offered in Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations.

Standard equipment includes dual-zone climate control, heated seats, parking sensors, Bi-LED headlights and a 7-inch driver display, while higher-spec models add larger infotainment screens and upgraded audio systems.

Isuzu says the D-Max EV has already undergone UK testing in partnership with National Grid Electricity Distribution, including towing and winching in challenging conditions.

The D-Max EV gets a five-year, 125,000-mile vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty. Pricing starts from £59,995 (ex VAT).
