Nissan has announced a new collaboration with Octopus Energy as part of its revamped Nissan Charge app.
The app will integrate with Octopus' EV charging platform, giving users of the Nissan Charge app access to more than one million charge points from 1,200 operators across Europe.
The system allows users to charge using major networks like IONITY, Allego, Aral pulse, and TotalEnergies and will enable drivers of its range of electric light commercial vehicles like the Nissan Townstar Electric and Nissan Interstar-e to charge more easily.
The new app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, with around 500 new chargers being added to the platform on a daily basis.
The apps's new discovery tool allows for quick identification of real-time charger availability, filtering options by charging speed and plug type.
Powered by Octopus Electroverse, the Nissan Charge app is equipped with several functions to support both daily commutes and long-distance EV travel. Dynamic pricing insights provide users with real-time information to help optimise charging costs. It's also integrated with mobile payments like Google Pay and Apple Pay.
Soufiane El Khomri, director at Nissan Energy, said: "The new Nissan Charge app is an important step in our mission to make electric driving seamless and accessible. By introducing future-ready features, we’re not only helping drivers connect to Europe’s vast charging network, but we’re also laying the foundation for EVs to play an active role in the energy system of tomorrow. It aligns perfectly with our electrification journey, from our EV36Zero initiative to the exciting arrival of our next-generation models like the all-new MICRA and LEAF."
Nissan also plans to introduce a Plug & Charge (PnC) feature, which will make public EV charging even more seamless and secure, as well as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology.
V2G will allow EV drivers to significantly reduce their home charging costs by enabling their vehicle batteries to support grid stabilisation and feed energy back to the grid when needed.
Matt Davies, director at Octopus Electroverse, said: "For the first time, Electroverse's technology has been integrated into another brand’s charging app — and we’re thrilled to see that debut with Nissan. As EVs become mainstream, drivers want a charging experience as smart as their vehicle. By bringing our cutting-edge technology into the Nissan Charge app, we’re delivering the best of Electroverse."
