Renault has added another electric van to its zero emission range with the reveal of the Renault 4 E-Tech Van.

Available with two motor options, and two different battery configurations, versions of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric van will vary country to country.

However, there is currently no plans for the model to be launched in the UK. Selected markets will include Renault’s home market of France, as well as other European countries where the brand has seen strong demand for its electric vans.

The base model gets a 90kW (120hp) electric motor with a 40kWh battery. That’s enough for a claimed range of up to 308km (191 miles) on the WLTP test cycle.

There’s also a more powerful 110kW (150hp) electric motor which gets a larger 52kWh battery. That model will have a claimed range of up to 409km (254 miles).

Both Renault 4 vans will have 11kW AC bi-directional battery chargers, but will also support DC charging at a rate of up to 80kW for the 40 kWh battery and 100 kW for the 52 kWh battery.

That means that charging the 52kWh battery from 15% to 80% with the 11kW AC charger will take 3hrs 13 min. The smaller 40kWh battery will take 2hrs 37 min. Both models will take just 30 minutes to charge from 15% to 80%.

The Renault 4 E-Tech electric Van is fully converted commercial vehicle, meeting the N1 classification which will make the VAT redeemable in the UK.

Renault 4 electric vans will be converted in-house by Qstomize at the Manufacture Ampere in Maubeuge, known as ElectriCity. This is the production site where Renault 4 E-Tech electric passenger cars are built.

The car’s rear seats and belts are replaced by a thermoformed tray with a load-stop system and lashing hooks.

The Renault 4 E-Tech Van cargo space is increased to 1,045 litres, but gets an official 0.94m3 based on the VDA standard. This includes an underfloor area of 55 litres suitable for storing the charging cable.

Renault 4 electric vans will get a payload of up to 375kg for the small battery and 345kg for the large batter. While the Renault 4 Van dimensions are the same as the car but allow for a maximum load length of up to 1.2 metres.

The passenger area can be separated from the loading space by a mesh bulkhead, and depending on the country, vans may also get a luggage cover, an anti-slip mat or a function to disable the opening of the rear windows and doors.

All models will be available with the Advance trim level.

The Renault 4 was introduced nearly 40 years ago in 1968 where it had an impressive payload of more than 700kg, and was powered by a 4 cylinder engine.

Prices for the Renault 4 E-Tech Van will start from €29,300 (excluding VAT).
