International Van of the Year 2025 shortlist revealed

August 23, 2024

The five models in the running for the prestigious title of International Van of the Year have been revealed.

The shortlist for the International Van of the Year 2025 will see Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Renault and the Stellantis brands of Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot and Vauxhall go up against each other in a line-up dominated by large vans.

Ford gets two nominations for the Ford Transit Courier and the Ford E-Transit Custom. Ford clinched the title of International Van of the Year 2024 for the Ford Transit Custom diesel variant and is now back one year later with its all-electric E-Transit Custom van. While the Courier is likely an outside bet, despite being an excellent van, the electric Transit Custom will be a tough van to beat having already proven itself as an ICE van.

Other models in the running include the revamped Mercedes-Benz Sprinter range, which includes the excellent (but fleet focused) Mercedes-Benz eSprinter.

Also in with a shot at glory is the Renault Master range which includes the Renault Master E-Tech large electric van. Renault has designed the new Master from the ground-up, making it suitable for a multitude of powertrains with ICE, BEV and hydrogen options all planned. It's packed with safety features and has a bold new design that seems to have been very well received.

Last and by no means least is the huge portfolio of vans from Stellantis ProOne. These include the Fiat Ducato, Vauxhall Movano (also called the Opel Movano), Peugeot Boxer, and the Citroen Relay (also known as the Citroen Jumper). Like the Renault Master they too have had a significant overhaul to prepare themselves for electrification. Previously electric versions of these large vans was completed by a third party based in Turkey, but Stellantis has now taken the task in-house thanks to the design of the new range.

Speaking about the upcoming award International Van of the Year jury chairman Jarlath Sweeney, said: "This year, there were 9 nominations, representing 15 light commercial vehicle brands, all in contention for the main prize. Once again, as per last year, there was a mix of diesel, battery electric and hydrogen powered vehicles on the long list. Presently, the jury is entering the final election process, to vote the overall winner of the most prestigious and longest established award in the light commercial industry."

The winner will be announced during the IAA Transportation ’Night of the Stars’ event at Messe Hannover. Also being presented will be the winner of the Internationla Bus of the Year, International Coach of the Year, International Truck of the Year and the Truck Innovation Award.
