New Citroen Relay takes driving aids, connectivity and comfort to a new level with features that are unique in its segment. Its range of diesel and electric engines has been extensively overhauled, guaranteeing professionals even greater efficiency and lower running costs.
New Relay is Citroën's most sturdy LCV, with a payload of up to 2 tons. It features a range of innovative equipment – worthy of a passenger car – ensuring optimum working conditions every day.
AN ASSERTIVE DESIGN
The front end of the new Relay has been redesigned to further reinforce the model's strong personality, while improving its aerodynamic characteristics. The bumper, radiator grille (now the same colour as the bodywork) and rear-view mirrors have been redesigned with this in mind. The black lower section has been reinforced to further enhance the vehicle's impact protection. More elegant, the new LED headlamps are also 30% more efficient than their halogen predecessors. Finally, the rear lights have also been given a new design.
In the passenger compartment, the new Relay's dashboard has been redesigned to offer improved ergonomics and a more elegant style, with a new digital instrument cluster and large central screen (see below). The steering wheel, gearbox controls and door trim have also been upgraded.
OPTIMISED DRIVING COMFORT AND SAFETY
REDESIGNED ENGINES
More suited than ever to all types of use, the new Relay comes with engines that combine performance and efficiency.
The new 2.2 Diesel engine is available in three powers: 120 bhp, 140 bhp and 180 bhp, combined with a new 6-speed manual gearbox. For the first time, an 8-speed automatic transmission is available as an option with the BlueHDi 140 and 180.
The maximum payload for a Citroen Relay 35 L3H2 equipped with the 2.2 BlueHDi 140 engine is 1,495kg. This figure applies to the 3.5-tonne Gross Vehicle Weight model, which is the most common configuration for UK operators. You should always check the specific weight plate on your vehicle, as adding optional equipment or heavy internal racking will reduce this available carrying capacity.
The Citroen Relay is mechanically identical to the Peugeot Boxer because both vehicles share the same chassis, engines, and body panels from the Sevel production facility. The only notable differences are the front grille styling, steering wheel badges, and specific trim names. Choosing between them usually depends on which manufacturer offers the most competitive fleet discount or which local dealership provides better servicing support.
You can drive the 4.25-tonne Citroen ë-Relay on a standard Category B car licence due to a UK government derogation for alternatively fuelled vehicles. This legislation allows drivers to operate electric vans up to 4,250kg to offset the weight of the battery packs. Drivers must complete five hours of accredited training to legally utilise this weight extension, ensuring they understand the handling characteristics of a heavier vehicle.
The 2.2 BlueHDi engine typically returns between 28mpg and 32mpg in real-world driving conditions with a partial load. While official WLTP figures suggest a combined cycle of up to 34.8mpg, your actual efficiency will fluctuate based on your driving style and cargo weight. Urban delivery routes with frequent stops often see figures drop to 25mpg, while steady motorway cruising at 60mph provides the best efficiency.
The Citroen Relay remains ULEZ compliant for 2026 if it meets Euro 6 emissions standards, which applies to all diesel models manufactured after September 2016. Every new Relay sold today uses BlueHDi technology with AdBlue to keep nitrogen oxide outputs below the 0.08g/km limit. Electric ë-Relay models are also fully compliant and currently exempt from daily charges in London and other UK Clean Air Zones.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features on the 2026 Citroen Relay when you choose the Enterprise or Driver trim levels. These models include a 10-inch high-definition touchscreen that integrates with your smartphone for navigation and media. Base-level trims might require a wired connection or offer a simpler DAB radio system, so it's vital to confirm the infotainment spec before placing your order.
The Citroen Relay offers a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,000kg on heavy-duty 40-series models, while standard 35-series versions are typically rated at 2,500kg. You must monitor your Gross Train Weight, which is often capped at 6,000kg for the 3.5-tonne variants. Exceeding these limits can lead to legal penalties and will negatively impact the vehicle's braking performance and long-term clutch reliability.
