Isuzu has gone electric with its new pick-up truck. Unveiled at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, the D-Max is the first fully electric pick-up truck claimed to match all the capabilities of a diesel model.
That means it gets a one-tonne payload as well as a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.
Based on the new D-Max platform, the Isuzu D-Max EV is a re-engineered version with a permanent four-wheel-drive system.
The D-Max EV uses a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery to give a WLTP range of 163 miles (263km) and is paired to dual motors producing a total output of 140 kW.
The front motor has an output of 43kW while the rear motor gets 97kW/. Combined there is a total of 325Nm of torque with 108Nm from the front and 217Nm from the rear.
Isuzu says the electric D-Max pick-up will have a 0-62mph time of just 10.1 seconds, while the top speed will be limited to 80mph.
The electric pick-up gets full-time four-wheel-drive with multi-level regenerative braking and and Eco Mode.
It gets a wading depth of up to 600mm, ground clearance of 210mm, and approach and departure angles of 30.5 degrees and 24.2 degrees, respectively.
Isuzu’s electric D-Max pick-up will come in two trim levels and will only be available in extended cab and double cab bodies.
The trim levels will match those of the diesel range with DL40 and V-Cross models. The main difference between the two trims is an upgrade to the infotainment screen, as well as dark grey, rather than chrome, accents for the more upmarket V-Cross.
Model | Drivetrain | Cab Types | Total power output | Battery Capacity | Key Features |
D-Max EV (DL40 equivalent) | Full-time 4x4 | Extended, Double | 140kW | 66.9kWh | Chrome styling, 8” infotainment, 7” driver information display, heated front seats, Bi-LED headlights, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, Rough Terrain Mode, and a 6-speaker premium sound. |
D-Max EV (V-Cross equivalent) | Full-time 4x4 | Extended, Double | 140kW | 66.9kWh | Dark grey styling, 9” infotainment, 7” driver information display, heated front seats, Bi-LED headlights, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, auto dimming rear view mirror, Rough Terrain Mode, up to 8-speaker premium sound (double cab model, 6 speakers in extended cab) |
The battery will be covered by an eight year warranty of up to 100,000 miles.
Pre-sales will begin in the second half of this year, when pricing will be announced. We’d expect the D-Max EV price to be around £55,000 putting it in the same pricing bracket at the new top of the range D-Max AT35 Arctic Trucks model.
First deliveries will begin in the UK in March 2026.
