Kia has confirmed it’s PV5 Crew will go into production this month.

Kia has expanded its growing Platform Beyond Vehicle line-up with the launch of the new PV5 Crew, a factory-built crew van designed to switch quickly between passenger and cargo carrying.

Based on the Kia PV5 Cargo L2/H1 long wheelbase van, the new model is aimed at businesses who need one van to carry both workers and equipment. The clever Kia system means that the conversion can be changed between layouts in seconds, without tools.

PV5 Crew uses a one-touch seat lever system that allows the van to move from a two-seat cargo set-up to a five-seat crew configuration.

The mechanism releases the recliner, tips the seat cushion and slides the partition in one action, dramatically speeding up the time it takes to substantially increase the useable loadspace in the van.

Flexibility is central to the PV5 Crew’s role in Kia’s new ‘Made In Plant’ conversion strategy, where specialist conversions are built directly into the vehicle at the factory rather than added later.

Kia says this is intended to deliver a more integrated and durable end product, while also allowing a wider range of layouts.

Inside, the PV5 Crew gets an L-track mounting system for securing cargo and accessories, along with a non-slip floor and Vehicle-to-Load power outlets in the load area.

Kia is pitching the van at sectors such as construction, maintenance, landscaping and airport operations, that will benefit from the mixed-use practicality.

Naturally the size of the PV5 Crew’s cargo space changes significantly depending on how the van is configured.

In five-seat mode, the available cargo length is 1,278mm, while switching to the two-seat set-up increases that to 1,965mm. Load volume rises from 2.4m3 to 3.7m3 depending on seating layout.

Power comes from a 51.5kWh battery, with Kia quoting an estimated range of up to 283km on the WLTP cycle, although final homologation is still pending. Maximum payload is 625kg, slightly less than the PV5 Cargo.

The PV5 Crew also shares the same underpinnings as the wider PV5 range, using Kia’s E-GMP.S electric commercial vehicle platform.

The PV5 Crew is scheduled to enter production on 30 April 2026, with market launch timings and availability still to be confirmed.

An example of the PV5 Crew was shown at the CV Show in Birmingham last year.
