GWM UK has revealed its new GWM POER300 double-cab pick-up truck which is due to be launched in the UK in mid-September.

Pronounced as "Power" the new pick up truck will compete at the value end of the pick-up truck segment and comes at a time when the sector is under pressure with dwindling sales thanks to the new tax rules for pick-up trucks introduced in April 2025.

GWM (Great Wall Motors) are reknowned for their affordable vehicles, with their previous pick-up truck, the Great Wall Steed priced well below the competition at the time.

However, it doesn't quite take the title as the UK's cheapest pick-up truck, that honour still lies with the Isuzu D-Max Utility which is available for under £30k.

Power for the GWM POER300 will come from GWM’s 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine, delivering 181hp and 480Nm of torque. It's paired to a new nine-speed automatic transmission and gets a full-time 4x4 system with low-range capability. GWM claims it will have a combined fuel economy of 32.7mpg.

It's also a proper pick-up too, with a braked towing capacity of 3,500kg and a payload capacity of 1,000kg.

The POER300 has launched in Australia, where it is known as the Cannon Ute, and has quickly established itself for its performance and value.

The exterior of the GWM POER300 gets integrated side steps, roof rails, and prominent "GWM" badging on the tailgate.

On the inside, the cabin gets several premium soft-touch materials and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's also a 7-inch digital driver's display and a wireless charging area for mobile devices.

The POER300 includes six driving modes, with Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud and Sand. It also has an electronically activated rear differential lock.

Off-road performance promises to be pretty decent too with an approach angle of 27 degrees, a departure angle of 25 degrees and a 230mm ground clearance.
