Renault Group, Geely Holding Group, and Geely Automobile Holdings have signed definitive agreements under which Geely will acquire a 26.4% stake in Renault do Brasil, increasing the partnership between the two automotive groups and accelerating their zero- and low-emission vehicle development.

The move strengthens Renault and Geely’s strategic cooperation first established through ventures such as Renault Korea Motors and Horse Powertrain Limited, and now extends their collaboration to South America’s largest automotive market.

Under the new agreement, Renault do Brasil will become a production and distribution hub for both Renault and Geely Auto vehicles, including the Geely EX5 electric SUV, which is already being sold in Brazil via dealerships operated through the Renault network.

Geely will gain access to Renault Group’s Ayrton Senna industrial complex in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, where Geely Auto models will be produced alongside Renault vehicles.

The site, one of Renault’s most advanced global manufacturing facilities, will serve as the base for expanding both brands’ line-ups in Brazil, with a particular focus on zero- and low-emission vehicles using Geely’s GEA new energy architecture.

By sharing technology, manufacturing capability, and distribution infrastructure, the partnership aims to significantly boost competitiveness and efficiency for both brands in Brazil’s fast-evolving automotive landscape.

Renault Group will remain the majority shareholder in Renault do Brasil and continue to consolidate its results within the Group.

For Renault, the deal represents a major step in its international development strategy and reinforces its commitment to Latin America - a region that accounted for over 40% of all vehicle registrations in Latin America in H1 2025.

François Provost, CEO of Renault Group, said: “The partnership we are announcing today with Geely in Brazil marks a decisive step forward in our international strategy. It establishes an agile cooperation founded on industrial excellence and technological leadership.

”Once again, combining our strengths will make us more competitive, more innovative, and more responsive in a fast-evolving automotive market,” Provost added.

Eric Li, chairman of Geely Holding Group, added: “Our continued cooperation with Renault in exploring new markets and new opportunities will make for a win-win scenario. Both Renault and Geely are leveraging technology scales on a global level to bring the best products to market.”

The new Brazilian partnership follows a series of high-profile collaborations between the two companies.

In South Korea, the Renault Korea Motors joint venture is producing vehicles based on Geely’s CMA platform, while their Horse Powertrain joint venture develops next-generation hybrid and efficient internal combustion technologies for global markets.
