Van security device manufacturer TVL Security has launched a new van security product designed to protect against one of the most common methods of forced entry.

Called LatchSafe, the latest aftermarket security device from the vehicle protection specialist has been developed in response to a rise in latch-related van break-ins reported by owners through the company’s Tell TVL reporting platform.

Designed for tradespeople and fleet operators, LatchSafe is intended to shield vulnerable latch areas from attack and improve resistance against cutting and drilling attempts.

TVL says the product has been engineered from high-strength stainless steel and reinforced with anti-drill manganese plating.

Its enclosed design is intended to remove exposed weak points around the latch area, creating a stronger physical barrier against thieves.

TVL LatchSafe was developed by its in-house Innovation Team and was first thought of by founder Tony Powell.

Luke Powell, commercial director of TVL Group, said the new system had been designed around the methods thieves are actually using.

“LatchSafe embodies our dedication to addressing real-world security challenges through practical, forward-thinking innovation,” he said.

“The product is engineered to provide full coverage and withstand the common attack techniques. By integrating high-strength materials we’ve ensured robust protection against cutting and drilling attempts. This marks a significant advancement in physical security,” Powell added.

One of the key drivers behind the product’s development was data gathered through Tell TVL, a secure online community where van owners report theft attempts, crime hotspots and the methods used to gain entry.

Feedback from owners how have experienced real-life thefts, TVL said, showed that there has been a notable increase in attacks targeting door latches. This has helped TVL to shape the design and application of the new LatchSafe product.

TVL says LatchSafe is compatible with many of the latest major van makes and models, although a full vehicle list has not yet been detailed in the launch information.

Powell added that using owner-reported incidents allows the business to focus on practical security upgrades rather than hypothetical risks.

“By removing guesswork and relying on direct feedback from affected users, our Innovation Team can prioritise features that offer our customers immediate value,” Powell said.

“The result is a suite of security solutions that reflect the current landscape of vehicle crime, with each product tailored to meet the evolving challenges faced by owners,” he added.

LatchSafe joins a growing number of aftermarket security products aimed at protecting vans from increasingly targeted and sophisticated theft methods.

You can see the TVL LatchSafe and other van security products at the CV Show in Birmingham, later this month.
