BYD to preview a new car-derived van conversion, BYD Dolphin Cargo e-Van, at the CV Show
BYD will enter the UK light commercial vehicle sector with the debut of its Dolphin Cargo e-Van at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, held at the NEC Birmingham from 21 to 23 April.
The new model is based on the Dolphin electric hatchback and has been converted into a compact van, marking the brand’s first step into UK LCV sales.
BYD had previously shown full-size light commercial vehicles like the E-Vali at other commercial vehicle show, but despite being available in Europe there's been no timeline for BYD vans in the UK.

Designed for urban operators, the Dolphin Cargo offers more than 1,000 litres of loadspace, created by removing the rear seats and installing a solid bulkhead and reworked load floor.
BYD claims a combined WLTP range of 265 miles, from a 60kWh battery, rising to up to 347 miles on the City cycle.
The move into vans for BYD follows strong growth for the Chinese manufacturer in the UK passenger car market. Earlier this year BYD recorded 21,337 registrations in Q1 2026, giving it a 3.98% market share.
The Dolphin Cargo will be displayed on the Mediafleet stand, with the vehicle fitted with a lightweight racking system from Modul-System. BYD fleet representatives will be on hand to talk about the conversion.
While full UK pricing and specifications are yet to be confirmed, the model signals BYD’s intent to expand beyond cars and into the commercial vehicle sector, targeting urban delivery and fleet applications with a compact electric van offering.
Electric car conversions have been growing in popularity with recent announcements from non-van making manufacturers including Volvo and Skoda to bring car-derived conversions to market.
Citroen also introduced a Citroen e-C3 Van last year, while larger options include the Ineos Grenadier Commercial and Land Rover Defender Commercial.
