Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has updated its California mobile app with a range of new features designed to make camping trips easier to plan and manage.
Available for both iOS and Android devices, the latest version introduces improved campsite search tools, trip planning functions and expanded remote-control capabilities for California campervan owners.
One of the biggest additions is an enhanced Camping Spot Search, which now includes advanced filters and access to more than 45,000 camping locations across the UK and Ireland. Users can save favourite campsites using a new bookmarking feature and share locations with friends directly through the app.
The update also adds integration with what3words, allowing users to navigate to precise three-metre-square locations. Volkswagen says the feature is particularly useful for finding remote campsites and can also help emergency services pinpoint a vehicle’s location if required.
A new Travel Hub has been introduced to help owners organise upcoming trips. The feature allows users to save travel dates, view countdowns to departures and discover scenic attractions near their planned destinations.
Remote vehicle management has also been expanded. Owners can now check fresh water levels, auxiliary battery charge and interior temperature directly from their smartphone.
For compatible vehicles, the app can also remotely operate the California’s hydraulic pop-up roof and adjust the temperature of the onboard cool box.
Lisa Beaton, digital manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “As holiday season hits, it’s important Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles continues to provide service to our customers that goes above and beyond. Alongside the vehicles, a world-class ecosystem of apps and software can make planning and enjoying trips as simple and fun as possible. The latest updates to the California app do just that, helping users make the most of their vehicle.”
The updated California app is available now as a free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
