Harris Maxus UK, the importer for Maxus vans and pick-up trucks, has appointed Steve Hunt as its new managing director.

Hunt (pictured left) brings more than 40 years of experience in the automotive industry to the job having developed a reputation for leading businesses through periods of transformation while maintaining profitability.

He joins from Midlands Truck & Van, part of Ballyvesey Holdings, where he managed eight Mercedes-Benz franchised sites and a Daimler Truck Used outlet.

During his tenure, he led a 500-strong workforce, oversaw consistent profit growth, and directed the development of a £7m flagship dealership in Birmingham. He also steered the business through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic while protecting profitability.

“It is a privilege to take on the role of managing director of Harris Maxus UK at such a pivotal moment for the business,” Hunt said.

“The quality and breadth of the Maxus product range, together with the scale and ambition of the Harris Group, create a rare opportunity. My priority will be to work closely with our dealer partners and internal teams to drive growth, strengthen market influence, and ensure Harris Maxus continues to lead through innovation and service excellence.”

His appointment is seen as central to Harris MAXUS UK’s plans to expand dealer coverage, push product innovation and strengthen aftersales support.

Harris Group managing director Brian Patterson (right), who previously worked with Hunt at Ballyvesey Holdings, said the appointment marked an important milestone for the company.

“Steve brings the strategic vision, market intelligence and relentless energy essential to capitalise on our market momentum,” Patterson said.

“His expertise and ability to build high-performing teams made him the outstanding choice to lead Harris Maxus UK forward,” he added.

The appointment is part of Harris Maxus UK’s wider strategy to strengthen its position in the UK commercial vehicle sector and expand its national footprint.

Maxus has recently announced it will be entering the light truck sector with the Maxus eDeliver 75, adding to its range of electric vans with an fully electric truck.

The eDeliver 75 will join models like the Maxus eDeliver 9 large electric van, and the Maxus eTerron 9 pick-up truck, in an expanding line-up of EVs.
