Some vans are made for big things and some are not, but the Ford Transit Courier payload may surprise you, not least because it has a little trick up its sleeve.
There's only a few options for the Transit Courier but they all affect the weight of the vehicle and the payloads that this van can carry, so we'll look at the different van weights and what they do to the payload.
Importantly we'll answer the question how you can get the most payload out of a Ford Transit Courier. It can add up to 170kg extra.
The Ford Transit Courier is a compact city van with a GVW of around 2 tonnes. It makes it one of the smallest vans on the market and the smallest in Ford's van range.
The Courier van has a kerb weight between 1.2 tonnes and 1.3 tonnes depending on the van you pick. That means that electric, petrol and diesel vans all have slightly different weights.
If you choose the more luxurious trim levels that's also going to add some weight, so that can alter the maximum payload you'll get from the van.
If you want to know more about the trims and other details read the Ford Transit Courier review.
Below you'll see the typical kerbweight for a Transit Courier - this is for a diesel van in the Limited spec. It's probably the most common version out there, but also falls neatly in the middle of what you'll find most vans weight.
The GVW for that van is just under 2-tonnes, but as you'll soon find out there's a sneaky way of boosting that and making the Courier far more practical.
Payload for the Transit Courier range varies between 615kg to 676kg - but it is possible to get up to 845kg out of your van.
Ford Transit Courier | Van Weights |
---|---|
Kerb Weight | 1,288 kg (average) |
Gross Vehicle Mass | 1,965 kg |
Gross Payload | 615kg to 676kg |
The Ford Transit Courier is available in two different gross vehicle weights.
It comes as either a 2-tonne van or a 2.2-tonne van.
That higher GVW means that Ford can give customers a high payload option of up to 845kg.
Regular vans have a payload of between 615kg and 676kg depending on if you've chosen the petrol or the diesel engine van.
Both vans alter the payload allowance slightly because of the weight of the engine but also because they have slightly different trim levels.
The best payload can be had on a petrol engine Transit Courier. It's the automatic Transit Courier van but in entry-level Leader trim. That means that it gets fewer items to add weight.
It will give you a paylod of 676kg, which is nearly 60kg more than the worst performing van. If youre average adult weighs around 75kg, that means you've nearly got one less passenger to carry around all of the time.
Here's the clever bit. Ford can also sell you a Transit Courier with an even larger payload allowance.
The Ford Transit Courier van weights, that include the payload allowance, are all governed by the gross vehicle weight of the van. So, if you increase the GVW then you can get a higher payload.
That's where the clever ยฃ150 option for a high payload Transit Courier van comes in.
With the high gross vehicle weight option, it adds around 170kg of additional payload.
If the basic payload for a Transit Courier van is 615kg, by ticking the high payload option box you can squeeze up to 845kg out of your Transit Courier.
That to us seems like money well spent. It's less than ยฃ1 a kilo, which is cheaper than the per kilo price of onions in the supermarket.
If that's not a bargain, then we don't know what is.
