What are the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dimensions? What are the internal dimensions of a Sprinter van and what length is the Sprinter? These are all really common questions about the Merc Sprinter and you’ve come here because you want to know something about the size and dimensions of the Mercedes Sprinter van.
The Sprinter is one of the most popular vans on the road and comes in a huge range of sizes and body types. If you want to know the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dimensions you’ll find everything you need to know below including the Sprinter height, Sprinter length and Sprinter width. If you know what van you have, the sizes can be found in the tables below whether you have a low roof, high roof, short wheelbase or long wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter van you’ll find the correct information of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dimensions for UK vehicles. This dimensions guide refers to the current generation of Sprinter van.
So, what size is the Mercedes Sprinter? There are in fact four different lengths for the Sprinter van ranging from L1 short wheelbase vans to, L4 extra-long wheelbase models. Overall lengths range from 5267mm to a massive 7367mm – we’ll go into details on what that means for internal dimensions in each of the individual sections.
The most commonly asked question we get is...
The Sprinter comes in three roof heights which ranges in height from 2351mm to 2825mm.
That means... the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter height in metres is from 2.35m to 2.83m.
The Mercedes-Benz sprinter dimensions range form 5257mm to 7367mm in length, 2351mm to 2825mm in height and all vans are 2020mm wide.
The full details of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter range can be found in the table below, allowing you to compare the sizes of each of the varying heights and lengths of van. After this you'll find specific details on individual vans. Scroll down and look for the headings.

If you intend to fill your van up to the rafters and need to capitalise on every available cubic foot of space you’ll need to know the overall volume of the load area. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has a total load volume ranging from 7.8m3 up to 17m3.
The sill loading height, which is the distance from the ground to the load floor in the rear of the van is 566mm for the lowest vans and 626mm for the tallest. In other words its around 60cm you’ll have to hoist any heavy items up to get them in the back.
The loading height is not to be confused with the ground clearance which is the distance from the ground to the very underside of the vehicle – this is the information you need to know if you’re going off-road (not recommended unless you’ve got a Sprinter 4x4). The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ground clearance is 143mm for front-wheel-drive (FWD) vans and 162mm for rear-wheel-drive (RWD) vans.
Another common question we get asked is…
Yes, the Mercedes Sprinter is bigger than a Ford Transit, but that will depend on which models you are comparing. As a general rule, the Sprinter is longer, higher and wider than the Transit van.
This means it also has a larger storage and loadspace area with the largest Transit allowing 15.1m3 and the biggest Sprinter van taking 17m3.
To find out more about the Ford Transit dimensions read our comprehensive guide.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has an overall height of 2351mm for the H1 van, 2616mm for the H2 van and 2825mm for the highest H3 Sprinter van.
That means an H2 van won’t be able to fit underneath a 2.5m height restriction, and a extra-high roof H3 van won’t get under a 2.8m restriction either. Those sort of height restrictions aren’t particularly common, they much more usually found at 2m or 2.1m which the Sprinter is getting nowhere near, even as a low roof van.
The above heights are also for the lowest of the H1, H2 or H3 variants, other bodies do have slightly higher heights depending on the body size and its weight, as well as what tyres it has on.
The internal height of a Sprinter van ranges from 1789mm for a standard roof H1 van, 2009mm for a high roof H2 and 2243mm for an extra-high H3.
There's one exception to this which is a front-wheel-drive H2 van which gets an additional 70mm making the high roof H2 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van with front-wheel drive get 2079mm of loadspace height
An extra-high H3 Sprinter van is a very tall thing indeed. But it's also a bit misleading. When you reach the section on the LWB Mercedes Sprinter (below) you'll see a diagram on the dimensions that includes a head on picture. In that technical dimensions diagram you'll notice that the roof of the H3 Sprinter van narrows inwards. The full width of the van is only usable up to a height of 1836mm, and the additional full height of 2243mm is acheived with a sort of box that is narrower.
That means that the usable space at the very highest point in the van is not the same as the 1878mm internal width but is in fact similar to that of the width between the wheelarches - which is 1350mm.
You’ll often need to know the width of a van because of a restricted road or parking space size. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter width is 2345mm at its very widest overall dimensions - the mirror to mirror width. It's the same for all size of Sprinter vans. If you fold the mirrors in the Sprinter then has a width of 2175mm. The width of the body at its widest part, excluding mirrors, 2020mm.
The maximum internal loadspace width in the back of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is 1787mm, and is the same for all types and sizes of van.
Because of the intrusion of the wheels in the the rear loadspace a portion of the internal loadspace is narrower at 1412mm. That means 375mm has been eaten up by the rear wheels.
Despite losing more than 37cm there's still plenty of space in the rear of the Sprinter van, but its worth noting that wheel-to-wheel size if you need to transport something very large. If you only need to move pallet, however, there's plenty of space. A standard UK pallet measures 1200mm x 1000mm and a Euro pallet is smaller still at 1200mm x 800mm.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is 5267mm for the L1 short-wheelbase van, 5932mm for the L2 medium-wheelbase van, 6967mm for the L3 long-wheelbase van and 7367mm for the extra-long-wheelbase Sprinter van.
Sprinter vans are reknowned for being really big vans, but in the smaller sizes they're actually slight smaller than their main competitor, the Ford Transit. The Transit range is 5531mm for the shortest medium-wheelbase van, 5981mm for the long-wheelbase model - both of these are bigger than a Sprinter. It's only when you get to the biggest van there's a noticeable difference. The largest Transit panel van is 6704mm long, sitting between the two largest Sprinters. Ford does do an extra-long model but only as a chassis cab.
The maximum loadspace length for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, at the floor level with a fixed bulkhead, is 2732mm for the L1, 3397mm for the L2, 4410mm for the L3 and 4810mm for the L4.
There is a slight variation for RWD L2 vans which lose 125mm and have a maximum internal length of 3272mm. How long is the back of a Mercedes Sprinter van? Well, that depends on the model, but the sizes are 2.7m, 3.4m, 4.4m and 4.8m.
5267mm (L) x 2020mm (W) x 2356mm (H)
The short-wheelbase (SWB) Sprinter is only available in one size. It has a overall body length of 5267mm, a width of 2020mm and a height of 2356mm.
The L1H1 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van has a 7.8m3 load volume.
The maximum load length and how long the internal size of the SWB Sprinter van is 2732mm.

Firstly, thank you for getting all the way down to the bottom of this massive article. We hope it has been of some use to you.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is one of the most versatile vans on the market. As you can see it comes in all manner of size, and you have to keep in mind that these are just the panel van versions. You can also get the Sprinter as a chassis cab, a minibus and as factory-built tippers and dropsides. The list is endless.
There's also an electric version, the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter which is based on the L2H2 van, giving it an 11m3 capacity. Newer models will have more size options and we'll keep you updated on those.
But to answer the above question, no the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is not the biggest van on the market - amazingly. The Iveco Daily can probably claim the title of the largest van. It has a capacity of up to 21m3 and some truly gigantic proportions to match.
