Dacia achieves record market share in 2024, with help from vans

January 16, 2025

Dacia managed to achieve a record market share in 2024 with a 2.7% increase in sales and a total of 676,340 vehicles sold.

While only a small portion of those were van sales, Dacia noted it's LCV performance, without going into detail.

In Europe, Dacia light commercial vehicles are a popular alternative to more established brands with models that include the Dacia Dokker van, Dacia Duster 4x4 Commercial and the newly launched Dacia Spring Cargo.

Here's now Dacia's 2024 results looked. The company saw a 2.7% increase in sales compared to 2023 and has now surpassed nine million vehicles sold since its relaunch in 2004.

Dacia recorded a 1.6% growth in sales over the previous year, with a market share of 3.9% in the passenger car and light commercial vehicle segments, an increase of 0.1 percentage points from 2023. This was enough to earn it a spot in the European Top 10 for the first time.

In the passenger car market alone, the brand achieved a 4.5% share, also up 0.1 points, rising to ninth place in the rankings.

Dacia maintained its strong presence in retail sales, securing an 8.2% market share of passenger cars sold to retail customers, consistent with its 8.3% performance in 2023.

Key European markets contributed significantly to this growth, with record-breaking performances in Austria, Belgium-Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, and Portugal. Austria’s market share climbed to 4.2%, while Belgium-Luxembourg reached 5.2%. Germany posted a 2.5% share, Italy recorded 6.2%, and Portugal achieved 7.7%. Several countries also experienced double-digit growth in sales volume, including Belgium-Luxembourg with a 15.4% increase, the Czech Republic with a 20.2% rise, and Spain with a 12.4% boost.

Dacia’s success was underpinned by the strong performance of its key models. The Sandero remained the best-selling vehicle in Europe across all channels, achieving 309,392 sales, a 14.5% increase compared to the previous year. This milestone made Sandero the first Dacia model to surpass 300,000 units sold in a single year.

The Duster retained its position as Europe’s top-selling SUV for retail customers, with 215,024 units sold in 2024, marking a 7.3% increase.

Since its launch in 2010, the Duster has accumulated over 2.5m units on the road, and newly launched third-generation model, has seen an impressive 29% of its sales coming from hybrid powertrains.

The Spring experienced renewed demand with the introduction of its updated version in September.

Meanwhile, the Jogger maintained its position in the non-SUV C-segment retail market, selling 96,440 units, a 2.4% increase from the previous year. Like the Duster, 29% of Jogger’s sales were attributed to hybrid variants.

Dacia’s ability to attract and retain customers remains a key strength. In major European markets, 62.3% of Dacia buyers were new to the Renault Group, while 81.1% of existing Dacia customers went on to purchase another Renault Group vehicle.

High-end versions of Dacia models also proved popular, with 78% of buyers opting for the most top spec trims.
