The newly created joint venture from Renault Group and Volvo Group, Flexis has revealed its new electric van range set to be launched next year.
Three new Flexis models will be available when production begins in mid-way through next year with a chassis cab, panel van and a step-in delivery model with walk-through bulkhead.
Flexis aims to sell the vehicles direct to fleets, but Renault passenger cars and Renault Trucks will also sell versions of the models through their own sales channels, potentially opening the vehicles up to a B2B and retail customer audience.
The Flexis vans are based on a skateboard design created by Renault Group’s Ampere division with a fully connected vehicle designed to send real-time data to fleet managers, as well as receive over the air updates.
The panel van will be available in two wheelbase lengths with an overall height of 1.9m. Its dimensions position it in the medium van segment in competition with the Renault Trafic.
Cargo van variants will get a box body built allowing for different width and height configurations, as well as refrigerated versions.
Finally, the distinctive step-in van gets a high roof with 1.9m of headroom and a walk-through bulkhead to enable safer and easier deliveries. It gets a rear roller shutter door and a front sliding door with a low entry height and steps to the kerbside for safer entry and exit.
On the inside all vans will get a driver focused cockpit with two digital display screens. A rectangular screen behind the steering wheel will display useful driver information, while the central square screen will be customisable with possible integration for the fleet’s own delivery management systems.
It will be produced in both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive when it goes into series production halfway through next year. The RHD vans will follow roughly the same timeline as LHD vehicles with the Flexis vans expected to hit the roads during the second half of 2026.
Panel van variants are said to have a payload of up to 1.2 tonnes, while the cargo van chassis will have capacity for up to 1.5 tonnes. The step-in van gets a claimed payload of one tonne.
Battery details have not yet been confirmed, but will support rapid charging to enable the vehicles to be recharged to 80% battery capacity in just 20 minutes. The vehicle range will vary depending on the model and battery size, with current claims of up to 460km (285 miles) for the best performing panel vans, based on the WLTP test cycle, with the step-in van getting a claimed range of 350km (217 miles).
The platform is also likely to be the basis for the future generation of the Renault Trafic, and serial production models will be made at Renault Group’s Sandouville plant in France from mid-2026..
So far, as part of the development process, twenty prototypes have been built for testing, and have already notched up more than 9,000 hours of driving, since March 2024.
Flexis says it currently has 10 letters of intent from major fleets with demand for up to 15,000 vans over a three-year period.
Several high profile European operators are committed to the project including logistics giant CMA CGM, who along with Renault Group and Volvo Group have invested in Flexis.
Renauilt Group and Volvo Group have each invested €300m in the venture, with CMA CGM contributing €120m for a 10% stake.
Companies who have come forward with the intention of operating Flexis vehicles include DB Schenker, Colis Privé from France and HIVED in the UK.
There will also be a central digital platform for Flexis clients called the "FlexE Connect” and network support will be provided by Renault Group and Volvo Group.
Flexis will also introduce a Customer Operational Centre which will conduct real-time fleet monitoring, giving diagnostics, personalised performance reports and proactive recommendations.
There’s no indication of pricing, however, Flexis executives maintain it will be competitive to diesel vehicles as an overall total cost of ownership proposition.
