Ineos Automotive has found itseld on the grid of another specialist emergency service fleets after being appointed an official emergency services vehicle supplier to the Automobile Club of Monaco.

The agreement sees nine Grenadier Quartermasters deployed to support motorsport safety operations across the Principality’s prestigious calendar of events, including Formula 1, Formula E, historic racing and the World Rally Championship’s Monte Carlo Rally.

The vehicles were officially unveiled during the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix weekend by Albert II, Prince of Monaco, marking the start of a new partnership between Ineos Automotive, the ACM and Monaco’s fire and rescue services.

Five of the vehicles are Grenadier Quartermaster Chassis Cabs that have been converted by Portuguese specialist Tuga Fire, an Ineos-approved converter with expertise in emergency service vehicle builds.

The remaining four Grenadier Quartermasters have been supplied as part of a six-year agreement between Ineos Automotive and the Automobile Club of Monaco.

All nine vehicles will be operated by the Corps des Sapeurs-Pompiers de Monaco, the principality’s fire and rescue service, providing trackside emergency response capabilities during major motorsport events while also supporting day-to-day operational duties throughout the year.

Configured as rapid intervention vehicles, the converted Grenadiers are equipped to carry up to four firefighters and feature bespoke rear bodies designed to house firefighting and rescue equipment. The vehicles can be deployed for both fire suppression and driver extraction duties, with immediate access to specialist tools required for motorsport incidents.

Additional modifications include integrated warning systems, lightbars, scene lighting and strobe lights powered through the Grenadier’s factory-fitted High Load Electrical Preparation package.

Aside from an upgraded rear suspension system to support the additional equipment, the vehicles required no significant structural changes, allowing them to retain their original five-year manufacturer warranty.

Lieutenant-colonel Maxime Yvrard, chief of the Corps des Sapeurs-Pompiers de Monaco, said the vehicles had undergone extensive testing before entering service.

“The Grenadier underwent rigorous testing to ensure its capability to safely and effectively meet the extreme demands of an extraction and fire response vehicle, particularly on the Monaco circuit as well as on the roads of the WRC Monte-Carlo Rally,” he said.

“Monaco’s firefighters have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the Grenadier and have been deeply impressed by its strength and durability.”

The Monaco agreement represents the latest in a series of emergency service and public sector fleet wins for Ineos Automotive. Earlier this year, the Spanish National Police added 10 Grenadier 4x4s to its Police Intervention Units fleet, with the vehicles selected to operate in challenging environments including mountainous regions, rural areas and emergency situations where conventional vehicles may struggle.

Ineos says demand from fleet operators has increased significantly as more organisations seek durable, highly capable vehicles for specialist applications. Fire and rescue services, police forces and humanitarian organisations across Europe and beyond have all begun integrating Grenadiers into frontline operations.

Eric Barrabino, events director at the Automobile Club of Monaco, said the new vehicles would play an important role in enhancing safety across the club’s motorsport programme.

“This acquisition demonstrates the close collaboration between the Automobile Club of Monaco and the Monaco Fire and Emergency Services regarding the technical and functional requirements of both entities,” he said.

“The modularity of these vehicles, adapted for use on track, rallies, and in urban environments, will strongly contribute to the ongoing improvement of the safety of the Automobile Club’s sporting events.”
