Vauxhall reveals new Combo Start as affordable small van option

June 18, 2026

Vauxhall has expanded its compact van line-up with the launch of the Combo Start, a new entry-level model designed to offer professional users greater flexibility at a lower purchase price.

Due to arrive in autumn, the Combo Start becomes the most accessible version of Vauxhall’s compact van range while retaining the carrying capacity and versatility that have made the Combo a popular choice among business users.

The vehicle forms part of Stellantis Pro One’s wider Smart Compact Van programme, sharing a common concept with newly launched Citroën, Fiat Professional and Peugeot counterparts. However, Vauxhall has positioned the Combo Start as a practical and dependable solution focused on everyday working requirements.

A redesigned front bumper gives the van a tougher appearance, while a completely new dashboard and door panel design has been introduced to improve ergonomics and maximise available storage space.

The biggest change, however, comes inside the cabin. Vauxhall has adopted a new Flexiseat system that replaces the traditional passenger arrangement with a modular seat that folds away to increase load volume by 0.5m³.

The company says this reflects the reality of how many vans are used, with most professional drivers spending the majority of their time travelling alone. The additional space created by the folded seat can be used for tools, parcels and equipment.

An optional Modutable workstation can also be specified, creating a practical mobile office within the cab. Other available features include the Dashbox storage system, Drivedrawer under-seat compartment, removable Moduconsole centre console and Moduwork three-seat configuration. A 220V outlet is also provided for charging electronic devices.

Buyers can choose from battery-electric, diesel and petrol powertrains, with a 48V hybrid due to join the range in 2027. The electric version uses a 42kWh battery and offers up to 270km of WLTP range.

Like the wider Combo range, the Start remains available in two body lengths, with load volumes of up to 4.4m³ and payloads reaching one tonne.

With growing pressure on operating costs and increasing competition within the compact van market, Vauxhall believes the Combo Start provides a straightforward and affordable solution that retains the core strengths of the established Combo while introducing a more flexible cabin concept.
