Citroen Relay van weight

Welcome to the guide for the Citroen Relay van weights where you'll find loads of facts and figures about the French manufacturer's large van with important details like the Relay payload other individual weights.

This article will cover the maximum payload of the Citroen Relay, as well as its kerb weight and the overall gross vehicle weight, and because overloading is so easy to do in a large van, we'll also cover the individual axle weights.

It's a massive "everything you need to know" guide to all of the important weights of the Relay van. It's also the complete guide to the Citroen Jumper van weights as well, so it's double the value. That's because the Citroen Jumper is the European name for the Relay. So, the Citroen Jumper van weights and the Jumper payload are exactly the same as the Relay.

If you're looking for any information about the size of the Relay van then you can check out the comprehensive Citroen Relay dimensions guide. That will steer you in the right direction for everything from length and width to height and load volume.

Finally, if you're wondering which is the best van to buy for payloads, then we'll let you in on a bit of a secret...

Well, it's not a secret, but the Relay shares the same chassis as the Peugeot Boxer and Vauxhall Movano and is also the same as the Fiat Ducato, and the Toyota Proace Max. That means that all of the weights of the Boxer, Movano and Ducato and Proace Max will match the Relay.

The secret part is that all five vans are exceptionally good at carrying payload. Read on to find out more about that, but if you need to know more about individual payloads for other makes, then check the van payloads page for details on other large vans.

Overview Citroen Relay van weight and payloads

The Citroen Relay van range has plenty of different sizes, but the important thing is that with each body variant the overall gross vehicle weight remains the same. All Citroen Relays have the same GVW, which is 3.5-tonnes or 3500kg.

That's quite unusual as most other large vans like rivals like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van weights all vary. The small wheelbase van will have a different gross vehicle weight to the very largest van. They usuall range from around 3 tonnes up to 3.5 tonnes, so the Relay is different in that it just has the one weight of 3.5-tonnes.

That's only the case for the diesel variant, though, because with the electric van model there's an additional allowance for a higher GVW, so the Citroen Relay electric van is available as a 4.25-tonne van which gives you an additional 750kg of payload which makes up for the additional weight of the batteries.

For the overall maximum payload you can carry in a Citroen Relay, the van has an overall allowance of between 1235kg and up to a maxmimum of 1500kg. These vary from vehicle to vehicle, so lets look in more detail at the specifics.

What is the Citroen Relay payload?

The payload of a van amongst the important elements to look at on a spec sheet. The amount of weight a van like the Citroen Relay can carry not only determines what jobs you can do, it is also linked to how much money you generate.

That's why payload is so important, and why the Citroen Relay payload is one of its most prized assets.

With a payload of up to 1500kg, the Citroen Relay has one of the greatest payloads of any large van.

You won't find many other large vans at a gross vehicle weight of 3.5-tonnes that can carry more than the Relay and its siblings.

Citroen Relay payload weights by model

The Relay comes in three body sizes and those lengths make a difference to the total payload of the Relay. That's because the larger the van, the more it weighs. The greater the kerb weight, the smaller the payload. The two are linked.

If you regularly carrying heavy items, it would make sense to have the smallest possible large van, in order to maximise your payload.

But if you're moving larger, bulky items then a high volume model would be best. You'll get less payload, but you may not need that, instead you'll want the additional space a high roof or extra long wheelbase can provide.

Citroen Relay L2H1 short-wheelbase (SWB)

Citroen's short wheelbase Relay has the largest payload, and confusingly, the smallest size begins at the number two. The L2 van is only available in an H1 roof height, but the L2H1 Relay has a payload of 1500kg, which is the largest payload and best in the range.

Citroen Relay L3 medium-wheelbase (MWB)

It is of course possible to specify the Relay with a higher roof. Adding a high roof brings a small weight penalty of around 25kg.

However, increasing the length of the Relay eats away a little bit more payload with the maximum payload for the L3 models reduced to 1425kg.

Citroen Relay L4 long-wheelbase (LWB)

The long-wheelbase model is the L4 which sees the overall payload drop dramatically to just 1265kg.

What is the Citroen Relay L3H2 payload?

As one of the most popular models on sale, we thought you might like to know the payload for the Citroen Relay L3H2 - that's a medium wheelbase high roof van.
The overall maximum payload for the L3H2 Relay is 1425kg.

What is the Citroen Relay weight

As previously mentioned, the gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the Citroen Relay is 3,500kg.

The overall Citroen Relay weight or GVW is the amount it can legally weigh at its maximum. The overall weight must include all the people and payload in the van, as well as the liquids like oils and coolants. If your van goes on the scales and weights more than 3500kg, you are overloading your van, which is illegal.

The Relay maximum weight is 3.5 tonnes for diesel engined vans, but GVW is different to the overall kerbweight.

What is the Citroen Relay kerb weight

The Relay's kerb weight ranges from 2000kg up to 2265kg. This is the overall mass of the van, and it will vary based on the size of the van. Other factors like if it has an automatic or manual gearbox will also play a part and if it is a long wheelbase, extra long wheelbase or has a high roof.

Also remember that small variation in the specification of the Relay and its trim levels will alter the overall weight.

Is there a Citroen Relay weight limit?

If you're wondering what is the total weight limit for the Citroen Relay, it is the same as the payload allowance.

That is, unless you are talking about road weight limits, for the roads you are allowed to drive on. These can be weight restricted because of the road surface (perhaps there are pipes underneath the road surface, or maybe it's due to a fragile bridge.

In this instance the weight limit for the Relay is 3.5-tonne vans - in other words the gross vehicle weight of the van.

The Relay's total payload weight limit is 1500kg for the best performing van - the short-wheelbase standard roof Relay.

What's the best Relay van for carrying heavy things?

Carrying something heavy? You'll need the lightest possible model and the best Relay van model for carrying the heaviest payload is the L2H1 Relay. Choose the one with a manual gearbox and you'll get a total payload capacity of 1500kg.

Citroen Relay axle weights

To ensure you don't overload your van it's also important to know the axle weights for the Relay.

Because the Relay only has one gross vehicle weight there's not much variation in the individual axles.

The very biggest vans, though, do have uprated springs that enable you to carry heavier loads.

A heavy duty version increases the Relay rear axle weight from 2000kg up to 2400kg, while the front axle weight is higher at 1880kg to 2100kg.

Standard ratings for the Relay van is 1880kg on the front axle and 2000kg on the rear axle.

What are the Citroen Relay van weights?

Vehicle weights for the Citroen Relay range from 3,500kg for the diesel and 4,250kg for the battery electric models. Diesel vans have a payload of up to 2,270kg.
