Kia has revealed some of the details around its first new van, here are the Kia PV5 van weight and payload details that we know so far.
The Kia PV5 is a small to medium sized van that is available in three versions with short and long body sizes as well as a high roof option. For more on the Kia PV5 dimensions read the article on its size.
The PV5 is also available with three different battery sizes, with each of the small, medium and large batteries changing the kerb weight and payload of the Kia van.
Official figures are still to be confirmed, but speaking to executive and engineers, the overall kerbweight of the small battery Kia PV5 will be around 1.95 tonnes.
Large batter models will probably tip the scales at around 2.1 tonnes.
The Kia PV5 is still to go through homologation and the gross vehicle weight is one of the easier numeric values to change.
However, as it currently stands all versions of the Kia PV5 have a gross vehicle weight of 2.7 tonnes or 2700kg.
Individual models may be altered and plated at different weights, depending on markets.
Overall payload for the Kia PV5 has been confirmed as 770kg for the small 43.3kWh battery version of the van.
Higher battery capacity models are available with 51.5kWh battery and a 71.2kWh battery option in the PV5.
While no one has yet been able to confirm the exact payloads of these variants we can expect as much as a 150kg payload penalty for the largest model - although this will depend upon the layout of the battery and any additional protection needed to keep the larger battery safe in the event of an accident.
Kia has confirmed that the Kia PV5 will have a maximum towing capacity of 750kg.
While that doesn't sound like a lot, many electric vans have struggled to delivery any sort of towing capacity.
As the PV5 straddles the small and medium van sizes, the 750kg towing capacity is a decent result.
The maximum payload allowance for a Kia PV5 van is 770kg, this is for the compact van with a small battery.
