Fiat has begun production of its latest pickup model, as they expand their reach for the mid-sized truck.
Already available in North Africa, production of the Fiat Titano has officially started the Stellantis factory at the Córdoba Automotive Complex in Argentina.
The Fiat Titano gets a 1.9-litre diesel engine producing 150hp. It’s paired to a 6-speed manual transmission and comes as a two or four wheel drive pick-up.
It’s not officially coming to the UK, so there’s no UK price of the Fiat Titano, but one of the largest markets for the Titano is Algeria. There is costs 3.5m Algerian Dinar, the equivalent of just under £20,000.
It comes as a 4x2 single cab or as a 4x4 double cab and manages an impressive payload of up to 1210kg.
Theres a multilink front suspension setup with a lead sprung rear axle, as well as an electronic differential or "e-locker" for better off-road performance and enhanced traction.
The Titano is available in other markets under several different badges, where it is sold as the Peugeot Landtrek, Ram 1200 and Changan Hunter.
The Peugeot Landtrek started life as a joint venture product developed with Chinese car manufacturer Changan Automobile. It was manufactured in Shenzhen by Shenzhen Baoneng Motor and has other production sites in Tunisia, Uruguay, Ghana and Nigeria.
Fiat previously sold a pickup truck in the UK and in Europe but has not had a product since exiting the sector in 2018.
The Fullback was based on the Mitsubishi L200, which was discontinued in 2019 when a mass exodus of pick-up trucks left the UK market, which included the Nissan Navara.
Fiat’s Fullback was a straight badge-swap with the L200 and became known for its highly attractive discounts and monthly lease prices.
Fiat has not had a pick-up truck on sale in Europe since, but now as part of the Stellantis brands a tie-up with Peugeot makes sense. The Landtrek has been a staple product in emerging markets for many years, and has increased its reach by including a model under the Ram brand.
