Fiat Tris is a new three-wheeler that UK and Europe needs

May 22, 2025

Fiat has unveiled its first every three-wheeler with a new super light commercial vehicle and pick-up truck.

The Fiat TRIS is a new model for Africa and the Middle East regions available with chassis cab, flatbed, and pick-up options.

Fiat says it has been designed to “meet the needs of micro transportation” and merges iconic Italian design with affordability and versatility.

The name “TRIS” is inspired by the vehicle’s three wheels and its signature three-light LED arrangement. It’s also said to be easy to pronounce across multiple languages, which is just as well considering the wide number of native tongues spoken in the target regions.

It will be made in Morocco, and sold with leasing and lease-to-own options.

The Pick-Up truck version is said to be a “ready-to-work solution ideal for transporting diverse goods such as fruit, sand, or furniture”, while the Flat Bed and Chassis-Cabin versions “offer the perfect base for custom upfits”.

Powered by a 9kW electric motor, producing 45Nm of torque, Fiat says it is simple to drive, with no clutch or gearbox.

There’s a 6.9kWh lithium battery with a range of 90km. It can be charged from a 220v plug socket, and a full charge will take just 4 hours and 40 minutes. It uses the same battery technology found in the Fiat Topolino and the Citroen Ami Cargo.

Measuring just 3.17m in length, it manages an impressive 2.25m of load space. A huge amount considering its dimensions. It’s also got a super tiny 3m turning circle.

More impressive, however, is the payload it can carry. Plated at a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 1,025kg, it can manage a total weight carrying capacity of maximum 540kg.

On the inside, the Fiat TRIS gets a 5.7-inch digital cluster for driving and range information. There’s also a USB-C plug and a 12V socket. The vehicle has LED lights, featuring Fiat’s new signature pixel design, as well as a reversing buzzer.

There are also multiple storage compartments, including a closed glove box on the dashboard for a total of 3-liters, as well as additional storage nets.

Three wheelers are notoriously unstable, but Fiat says stability is ensured by its wide rear axle track and 12-inch tyres. The long wheelbase also helps.

There’s no word on pricing yet, but we’d expect it to come in well below the price of a Fiat Topilino which comes in at around €10,000.

There’s also no UK price for the Fiat TRIS either because it’s currently ear-marked just for Africa and the Middle East, however, Stellantis has a habit of putting products in multiple markets, and with demand for electric city vehicles, cargo bikes and small electric vans increasing we can well believe there’ll be a case for the TRIS to come to Europe.

If it does, it will have to compete with the four-wheel Mobilize Bento as an urban delivery runabout.
