Stellantis's Pro One commercial vehicle division has announced the start of production for a new "Cargo Box BEV" at its Atessa plant.
This electric van is now being manufactured at the CustomFit Centre within Atessa, which is Europe's largest large van production facility.
Alongside the new Luton Van style box body, production has also begun of manufacturing a new range of BEV models for Recreational Vehicles (RVs) as part of its CustomFit programme.
Stellantis large vans will now also come with a 22kW charging option which allows for a full recharge in six hours, halving the charging time compared to the previous 11kW on-board charger.
Established in 1981, Atessa has produced more than 7.5 million units in that time, with approximately 50% of its production involving customised vehicles.
The Stellantis CustomFit programme integrates base vehicle features with specific customer modifications, all of which are carried out directly at the plant.
The CustomFit programme also caters to leisure vehicle conversions, a sector where Stellantis Pro One holds over 50% market share in Europe. The Fiat Professional Ducato, available with a BEV powertrain as the Fiat E-Ducato, is one of the most popular models in the campervan segment.
The new Cargo Box BEV, produced at Atessa, the manufacturing site for Stellantis's large vans (Citroën Relay, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, and Vauxhall Movano), has a cargo capacity of 18.3m3, with internal dimensions of 4,230mm max length, 2,032mm width, and 2,150 mm height.
It is based on the Battery Electric Chassis Cab version, providing 410Nm of torque and 200kW (270 hp) of power. Power comes from a 110kWh battery, giving a range of up to 323km.
The Atessa plant (pictured above) covers over 1.2 million square metres and exports 80% of its production to 75 countries.
Its production line extends 15km, and can handle over 1,200 different configurations.
With 14 engine types, four transmissions, more than 300 options, and eight van sizes, the plant offers over 2,500 different versions.
Anne Abboud, head of Stellantis Pro One division, said: “The launch of the Cargo Box BEV confirms the outstanding journey of this plant dedicated to proactively and quickly meeting the needs of our professional clients, according to the principles of efficiency, maximum quality, and time to market. Stellantis Pro One's offering is unmatched in terms of range breadth and flexibility.”
