The new Ford Ranger pick-up truck will get a new halo model added to the range with a Ford Ranger Platinum trim level.

The Ford Ranger Platinum sits above the Ranger Wildtrak in the pecking order and will be powered exclusively by the new V6 turbodiesel diesel engine option that is also used int the Ford F150 pick-up in North America. Wildtrak models will also get access to the V6 diesel model as well as the current 2-litre turbodiesel used in the current range of trucks.

The V6 petrol engine will remain exclusively for the Ford Ranger Raptor which is differentiated by its front grille with the F-O-R-D lettering and the Fox 2.5-inch Live Vale suspension.

Ranger Platinum is only available as a five-seat, double cab, with the 3-litre V6 engine producing 237hp and 600Nm of torque.

As is common throughout the new Ford Ranger line-up, the Platinum will use Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift scheduling and will also have a permanent all-wheel drive system. Mounts for the engine have been re-engineered to reduce noise and vibration, and Ford says that performance and refinement have been improved as a result.

Is the Ranger Platinum a commercial vehicle for VAT purposes?

Unlike the Ranger Raptor which doesn't qualify as a commercial vehicle, the Ranger Platinum is capable of transporting a 1-tonne payload. As such, buyers are able to reclaim the VAT if using it for business purposes. The Platinum also gets a 3,500kg towing capacity - the Raptor is limited to just 2,500kg.

The most obvious styling difference is the Platinum lettering across the bonnet and its very ostentatious chrome details. There's also 20-inch high gloss ebony alloy wheels available as an option, privacy glass, and standard fit roof rails.

On the inside the cabin is top-end, and similar to the Ranger Raptor but with a more subtle black finish around the vents and 12-inch portrait touchscreen.

The Ford Ranger Platinum also gets an eight-speaker B&O audio system and wireless device charging as standard.

Production of the new model is due to begin in March 2023, with the first customer deliveries scheduled from late Spring.

What's the price of the Ford Ranger Platinum?

The Ranger Wildtrak will be priced at £39,350 for the 2-litre engined model, while the Ranger Wildtrak V6 will start at £42,350 with an on the road price of £50,820 including VAT.
