Renault Trafic dimensions

You’re looking for the Renault Trafic dimensions and that’s probably because you need to know the Renault Trafic height, width or length.

We’re guessing you need to move something or you’re maybe a little worried about whether it will fit in somewhere, maybe a parking garage or under a height restrictor. Fortunately, the Renault Trafic is a pretty compact, but very usable medium-sized van.

Scroll down to the heading that interests you the most, we’re not only covering the Renault Trafic dimensions but will walk you through all the various sizes available in the range.

The Renault Trafic range is very straight forward. You can have a panel van or a crew van (the one with a second row of seats) and there’s even a full-on passenger version just like a minibus.

We’re going to focus on the body size and load dimensions of the Renault Trafic van. The Renault Trafic is available in two body lengths and two roof heights. Like much of the van world, Renault calls its standard wheelbase model an L1 and its long wheelbase van an L2. Similarly, the H1 is the standard height van, while the H2 is the high roof Renault Trafic.

What are the Renault Trafic dimensions?

The Renault Trafic is from 5080mm to 5480mm long, x 1967mm to 2498mm high, x 1956mm wide.

How high is a Renault Trafic?

The Renault Trafic standard height van is 1967mm. The high roof Trafic van is 2498mm high.

Look at the four drawings below to see the heights and lengths of the van as well as other Renault Trafic load dimensions.

Renault Trafic dimensions - height

How high is the Renault Trafic?

The Renault Trafic height is 1971mm for the standard van, comfortably enough to get below a 2m high parking restriction. The Renault Trafic high roof H2 van is 2498mm high.

A 2m car park is the standard test for a normal height van, and the majority will comfortably fit under 2m.

However, Renault Trafic high roof H2 van which is 2498mm high will not fit under such a restriction. That's quite a significant jump, which adds considerably to the load volume (see below). If you look closely you’ll also see that there is a slight difference between the heights of the long and short wheelbase vans. That’s usually to do with the extra weight of the metal weighing the van down slightly. But, as you can see there’s a 4mm drop for the standard height long wheelbase van and a 3mm increase for the high roof long wheelbase van. That’s pretty strange, but these are official Renault figures for the Renault Trafic van released from 2021 onwards. So unless you’re really sure it’s a concern, we wouldn’t worry.

A note of caution about height

Having said that, we advise caution with all these figures especially because they could be slightly higher in older vans but also because there’s a number of variables. Tyres can increase the height, not to mention the load in the back. Perhaps the biggest thing to factor in when you’re looking at the height
of the van is do you trust that the signage (if you’re going into a car park, for example) is correct. All too often we hear of height restrictions being wrong because the road has been newly resurfaced and no adjustments made to the height notification.

Also at open air car parks look out any height restrictions sagging in the middle. It’s pretty common when they get used as climbing frames, exercise bars or as makeshift goalposts. Just because it says it’s that height, doesn’t mean it definitely will be.

The Renault Trafic loadspace loading height is 552mm. The Renault Trafic's ground clearance is 160mm.

Trafic internal loadspace height

The Renault Trafic’s internal space – that’s the area inside that back that can be used for storing items – varies between the standard and high roof vans.

Standard height Renault Trafic vans have an internal loadspace storage height of 1387mm. The high roof Renault Trafic has an internal loadspace storage height of 1898mm.

Renault Trafic dimensions - width

Renault Trafic vans all measure the same across the width. The overall width across the body of a Renault Trafic van is 2283mm including the wing mirrors. The bodywork of the Renault Trafic measures 1956mm across its width.

Trafic internal loadspace width

The Renault Trafic internal loadspace width is 1662mm for all sizes of the van. They have a gap of 1268mm between the wheelarches - enough for a Euro pallet.

The rear door appeture for the Renault Trafic is 1391mm.

Renault Trafic dimensions - length

The Renault Trafic is available in two wheelbases and two body lengths. The wheelbase of a van is the distance between the front and rear axles - esstentially the length of the chassis. The short wheelbase van has a wheelbase of 3098mm, while the long wheelbase Renault Trafic has a wheelbase of 3498mm.

This gives rise to two different body lengths. The standard length Renault Trafic measures 5080mm in length. The long or L2 version of the Renault Trafic is 5480mm in length.

Trafic internal loadspace length

The Renault Trafic has a huge internal length advantage over its competitors like the Ford Transit Custom (you can find the Ford Transit Custom dimensions here) because it has the ability to load items all the way through to the footwell of the van.

The internal length of the standard Renault Trafic van is 2537mm which increases to 2937mm for the longer L2 model.

Thanks to a load-through hatch in the bulkhead, longer items like wooden battons or lengths of copper pipe, can be carried at floor level. The load-through hatch of a Renault Trafic gains 413mm over the standard van. That means the L1 standard van can move lengths of up to 2950mm and the L2 long model 3350mm.

But the capacity doesn't just stop there. That's because the Renault Trafic lets you load the items all the way to the footwell, adding another 800mm of additional length. That brings the total internal loadspace length of the Renault Trafic L1 van to 3750mm and 4150mm for the L2 Trafic.

The load-through hatch in the Renault Trafic measures 510mm wide by 222mm high, giving you plenty of space for a bundle of lath or pipe.

Renault Trafic load volume

Saving the best until last, the load volume is the total amount of space there is in the back of the van.

The Renault Trafic has a load volume range from 5.8m3 to 8.9m3.

The standard length and standard height L1H1 Renault Trafic has a load volume of 5.8m3.

If you chose the short body with a high roof L1H2 that increases the Renault Trafic load volume to 7.75m3.

The longer length and standard height L2H1 Renault Trafic has a load volume of 6.7m3.

Adding the high roof to the long body L2H2 Renault Trafic gives you a load volume of 8.9m3.
