You've come to find the answer to a simple question about the payload of a Citroen Dispatch van. Luckily for you you've found the right place where we'll answer key questions including: What’s the Citroen Dispatch payload? How much weight can my Citroen Dispatch carry? What’s the Citroen Dispatch capacity? What is the Citroen Dispatch weight in tonnes?
To make things simple, there are essentailly all the exact same question.
But as you will find out there are a lot of variations to how much weight a van can carry. There are also a lot of different vans of differing sizes, so if you need more information check out the van payloads homepage.
You'll also find guides on van dimensions and towing. As well as a Citroen Dispatch review.
If you've come in search of information on the electric version then there's also a Citroen E-Dispatch review as well as guides on the Citroen E-Dispatch dimensions, Citroen E-Dispatch payload and Citroen E-Dispatch towing capacity.
The official figures show that the Citroen Dispatch has a payload from 1,121kg to 1,384kg which excludes the weight of the driver but including all necessary fluids and 90% fuel.
Hopefully that's answered your question but if you want to dig a little deeper into the specifics of the payload for a certain model of Citroen Dispatch van then keep reading.
The Citroen Dispatch is plated at two different weights, 2.8-tonnes and 3.1-tonnes. That's the total weight the van is allowed to be when fully laden - people and cargo.
To be specific, the exact Citroen Dispatch gross vehicle weight numbers are 2,830kg and 3,070kg and 3,100kg for the panel vans.
There's no specific badging to find out which one you have so to find out the version you'll need to check the vehicle plating weights - this is a physical sticker or plate usually placed under the bonnet or inside the passenger door.
We'll try to break that down a little further for you now:
- 2.8-tonne GVW vans have a payload capacity of 1,121kg to 1,182kg
- 3.1-tonnes GVW vans have a payload capacity of 1,315kg to 1,384kg
Now to look at why there are still further variations and it has to do with the model and more specifically the Citroen Dispatch dimensions for the van you have.
Below is a breakdown of all the models showing the maximum payload - again minus a driver but including 90% fuel, oil and other liquids.
It also shows the Citroen Dispatch load volume which ranges from 5.3m2 to 6.1m3 and the overall gross vehicle weight of the van as previously discussed.
The breakdown includes the two different trim levels, Enterprise and Driver, and shows the overall vehicle length as well as whether the Dispatch van is a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic.
The increase in body size appears to account for around 50kg and 70kg less payload in an XL van compared to an M size model. Enterprise trim vans have betwen 9kg and 20kg more payload than their Driver alternatives. Adding an automatic gearbox to the Citroen Dispatch will reduce payload by 35kg in a M length van and 14kg in an XL van - although the latter isn't as clear cut because of a 30kg variation in the gross vehicle weight of the van.
Here's a simplified version of the above table for all of the Citroen Dispatch panel vans giving their total payload in kg.
Citroen Dispatch | Payload (kg) |
---|---|
Enterprise M Dispatch BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed Manual | 1182 |
Panel Van M BlueHDi 145 6-speed Manual | 1384 |
Enterprise M Dispatch BlueHDi 145 S&S EAT8 Auto | 1349 |
Enterprise XL Dispatch BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed Manual | 1130 |
Enterprise XL Dispatch BlueHDi 145 6-speed Manual | 1315 |
Enterprise XL Dispatch BlueHDi 145 S&S EAT8 Auto | 1329 |
Driver M Dispatch BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed Manual | 1173 |
Driver M Dispatch BlueHDi 145 6-speed Manual | 1375 |
Driver XL Dispatch BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed Manual | 1121 |
Driver XL Dispatch BlueHDi 145 6-speed Manual | 1335 |
Aside from the overall Citroen Dispatch payload it is sometimes important to consider the axle weights. Axle weights are split into the permitted weights for the front and rear axles.
This is the individual amount of load that can be on any one axle. Fortunately they are a lot higher than the overall Citroen Dispatch payload, which will make it harder to be overloaded on a single axle, however, it's not impossible.
Let’s explain…
As an example, you've got one-tonne on a pallet in the middle of your rear axle. That means that you have added 1000kg of weight to the van.
That's an increase in the overall payload of 1000kg. But, at the same time you're also distributing weight across both the front and rear axle.
However, because the load has been placed at the rear of the van the majority of the weight is going to be on the rear axle. The further the weight moves back towards the rear doors the more of the weight is taken up solely by the rear axle. Equally, if you push the pallet forwards towards the bulkhead, more weight is transferred to the front axle.
Why is this important then?
Well, this is how overloading can happen. Not only is the rear axle supporting the 1000kg pallet it is also carrying the weight of the body, and to a lesser extent, the engine, the gearbox and even you, your passengers and all the muck and rubbish on the dashboard.
If you're travelling with three people up front and a very heavy item pushed against the bulkhead it is also possible to overload the front axle as all the engine weight, people and payload are on or infront of the front axle.
The front axle weight for the Citroen Dispatch is 1500kg for all panel van models.
The rear axle weight for the Citroen Dispatch is 1800kg for all models.
The Dispatch is amongst the best vans for payload in the medium van segment, in fact it's overall payload is slightly better than the market leader. That's because the Ford Transit Custom payload ranges from 1100kg to 1350kg.
Because of the chassis sharing between all Stellantis vans, the Citroen Dispatch payload is also exactly the same as Peugeot Expert payload, the Fiat Scudo payload and the Vauxhall Vivaro payload.
