Daily, PV5 and Maxus vans get new 5-star safety rating

Euro NCAP 5 stars
December 2, 2025

Euro NCAP has released its latest result for newly tested light commercial vehicles with five models achieving the maximum 5-star rating.

Newly tested vans include the BYD E-Vali, the Iveco Daily and the Kia PV5 Cargo, all of which were awarded a five star rating, according to the current 2025 test standard.

Two Maxus vans were also retested to the 2025 standard and both the Maxus eDeliver 7 and the Maxus eDeliver 9 both secured the top rating.

Kia PV5 safety score

Kia PV5 during Euro NCAP testing

The Kia PV5 Cargo, recently named International Van of the Year 2026, managed the highest average scores across the test areas with 75% score for Safe Driving, an 80% score for Crash Avoidance and an 80% score for Post Crash Safety.

Speaking about its performance in the offical report, Euro NCAP said: "Kia’s futuristic PV5 comes as a passenger van and, as here, in Cargo form. Both share the same ADAS technology. The PV5 Cargo emerges from Euro NCAP’s tests with a five-star rating, putting it amongst the best choices for those looking for safety as well as practicality.

"The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system is standard equipment throughout Europe. The system combines AEB with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) that detects vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists as well as other vehicles. In Euro NCAP’s tests of the system’s reaction to vehicles, performance was good, even at higher speeds. The system performed well in tests of its reaction to pedestrians and cyclists, with collisions avoided in most test scenarios. The system also protects pedestrians to the rear of the van," the report continued.

"The standard-fit Lane Support System (LSS) gently steers the vehicle if it is drifting out of lane. The system intervenes more aggressively in some more critical situations to prevent the van from leaving the road. Here again, performance was good. The speed assistance system uses digital mapping and a camera to determine the local speed limit. This information is presented to the driver who can set the speed limiter accordingly."

The model tested was the Kia PV5 L2H1 in LHD.

BYD E-Vali safety score

BYD E-Vali during Euro NCAP testing

Close behind was the BYD E-Vali, a large electric van model not yet available in the UK. Thanks to 91% score in Crash Avoidance, an 80% score in Post Crash Safety, and a less impressive 62% score for Safe Driving, it narrowly edges out the Daily as the second highest average across the three tests.

The Euro NCAP report stated: "New to Europe in 2025, the E-VALI is BYD’s all-electric entry to the commercial van market. It is well-equipped with safety features, both for crash protection, with driver and passenger airbags, and for crash avoidance. All of the main ADAS technologies are standard across Europe and performance is generally good. The E-VALI emerges from Euro NCAP’s tests with a five-star rating, putting it amongst the best choices for those looking for safety."

"The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system is standard equipment throughout Europe. The system combines AEB with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) that detects vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists as well as other vehicles. In Euro NCAP’s tests of the system’s reaction to vehicles, performance was good, tailing off a little at higher speeds. The system performed
extremely well in tests of its reaction to pedestrians and cyclists, with collisions avoided in most test scenarios. The system also protects pedestrians to the rear of the van."

"The standard-fit Lane Support System (LSS) gently steers the vehicle if it is drifting out of lane. The system intervenes more aggressively in some more critical situations to prevent the van from leaving the road. Here again, performance was very good."

"The speed assistance system uses digital mapping and a camera to determine the local speed limit. This information is presented to the driver who can set the speed limiter accordingly."

The model tested by Euro NCAP was the BYD E-Vali 150kW 80.64kWh battery in long-wheelbase and LHD.

Iveco Daily safety score

Iveco Daily during Euro NCAP testing

Iveco's Daily has been tested before, scoring a Gold rating, the equivalent of a four-star rating under the new system. This time around the large van managed a 64% score for Safe Driving, an 85% score for Crash Avoidance and an 80% score for Post Crash Safety.

Euro NCAP said in their report that the IVECO Daily steps up from four to five stars thanks to "an improved safety performance with driver and passenger airbags as standard, and a side curtain optional, passive safety is also well catered for."

The report said: "ADAS performance is improved over earlier versions, with better scores in lane support and for autonomous emergency braking (AEB), especially with regard to vulnerable road users such as
pedestrians and cyclists. These changes are enough to move the van into Euro NCAP’s highest echelon of safety."

"Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system is standard equipment throughout Europe. The system combines AEB with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) that detects vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists as well as other vehicles. In Euro NCAP’s tests of the system’s reaction to vehicles, performance was good, tailing off only a little at higher speeds and where the target was
offset to one side. The system performed well in tests of its reaction to pedestrians, and the system now provides protection to those to the rear of the van. The system’s response to cyclists was also good."

"The standard-fit Lane Support System (LSS) gently steers the vehicle if it is drifting out of lane and intervenes more aggressively in some more critical situations to prevent the van from leaving the road. Overall performance was good, and improved over earlier systems. A blind-spot information system is available."

"The speed assistance system uses digital mapping and a camera to determine the local speed limit. This information is presented to the driver and the speed limiter can be set accordingly. However, the accuracy of the speed limiter remains just outside of Euro NCAP’s tolerances and was not rewarded."

The model tested was an Iveco Daily 35S diesel.

Maxus eDeliver 9

Maxus eDeliver 9 during Euro NCAP testing

The Maxus eDeliver 9 is also another van to raise its overall score, from the gold rating in 2024. This time around its gets a 5 star rating thanks to a 66% score for Safe Driving, an 81% score for Crash Avoidance and an 80% score for Post Crash Safety.

The Euro NCAP report said: "The 2025 MAXUS eDeliver 9 is very well equipped with safety features, both passive and active. For crash safety, driver and passenger airbags, and a side curtain airbag are standard throughout Europe. And the van also has all of the main active safety technologies
too. The eDeliver 9 emerges from Euro NCAP’s tests with a five-star rating, an improvement over its previous assessment, putting it amongst the best choices for those wanting safety from their commercial van."

Likewise, the system performed well in tests of its reaction to pedestrians. For cyclists, the eDeliver 9 scored maximum points, with collisions avoided in all test scenarios."

"The standard-fit Lane Support System (LSS) gently steers the vehicle if it is drifting out of lane. The system intervenes more aggressively in some more critical situations to prevent the van from leaving the road. The 2025 system is a significant improvement over earlier ones, with good performance where it was previously lacking. A blind-spot information system is standard equipment."

"The speed assistance system uses digital mapping and a camera to determine the local speed limit. This information is presented to the driver who can set the speed limiter accordingly. The 2025 system is improved over earlier systems."

Maxus eDeliver 7

Maxus eDeliver 7 during Euro NCAP testing

The final new five star van for the 2025 Euro NCAP van tests was the Maxus eDeliver 7, which is again a re-test from the 2024 results where the eDeliver 7 scored a gold rating - the equivalent of a 4-star rating.

This time around the eDeliver 7, Maxus' medium electric van, got a 67% score for Safe Driving, an 77% score for Crash Avoidance and an 80% score for Post Crash Safety.

The Euro NCAP report said: "The eDeliver 7 is one of three vans sold by Maxus in the European market. It is well-equipped with safety features, both for crash protection – with driver and passenger airbags, and a side curtain as an option – and for crash avoidance. All of the main ADAS technologies are standard across Europe and performance is generally good. The eDeliver 7 now gets a five-star rating, thanks to improvements made this year, and making it one of the best choices for those looking for a safe, mid-size van."

"The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system is standard equipment throughout Europe. The system combines AEB with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) that detects vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists as well as other vehicles. In Euro NCAP’s tests of the system’s reaction to vehicles, performance was good, tailing off only a little at higher speeds and where the target was offset to one side. The system performed adequately in tests of its reaction to pedestrians. For cyclists, the eDeliver 7 performed well, with collisions avoided in most test scenarios. The standard-fit Lane Support System (LSS) gently steers the vehicle if it is drifting out of lane. The system intervenes more
aggressively in some more critical situations to prevent the van from leaving the road. The 2025 system is a significant improvement over earlier ones, with good performance where it was previously lacking. A blind-spot information system is standard equipment. The speed assistance system uses digital mapping and a camera to determine the local speed limit. This information is presented to the driver who can set the speed limiter accordingly. The 2025 system is improved over earlier systems."
