Ahead of the reveal of the new Volkswagen Crafter, VW has shown the revisions to the large van's interior.
The cabin of the van has been completely redesigned and get the latest version of the Volkswagen Group infotainment system.
New features include a Digital Cockpit with multifunction steering wheel as well as an electronic parking brake. There will also be a number of new assistance systems including the integration of ChatGPT. Volkswagen says it is part of an extensive software and hardware update for the van.
The new Crafter will come with digital instruments as standard with a 10.3-inch display on the base level vehicles. A larger 12.9-inch infotainment display, based on the latest modular infotainment matrix (MIB) will be an option. The Crafter will also get a new online voice control system for many of the vehicle's functions. ChatGPT integration will allow the van to respond to natural voice commands.
Other more physical changes include the handbrake and the switch for the automatic gearbox both being redesigned along with the controls for the lights. There's also new buttons in the centre console and redesigned air vents.
A greater range of standard and optional assist systems will also feature. New Crafter models will get Front Assist (Autonomous Emergency Braking including Cyclist and Pedestrian Monitoring), Lane Assist (lane keeping system), Dynamic Road Sign Display, a speed limiter and acoustic Park Distance Control for the rear area all as standard. While the Travel Assist system will be available as an option for the first time on the Crafter.
The apperance of the new cabin has already broken cover after Volkswagen Group sister-company MAN revealed its version of the TGE interior.
Pre-sales of the new Volkswagen Crafter will start in mid-April.
