What is theToyota Proace payload for a panel van? That's a great question because Toyota aren't all that clear themselves about how much their vans can carry.
So, you've come to the right place to find out exactly what the Toyota Proace payload is, how much weight the Toyota Proace carry and what the Toyota Proace capacity maximum is.
There several versions of the Proace, so we'll break down the details from generic to detailed as we go and by the end of it you'lll know how much weight your Proace van can carry.
What is the Toyota Proace payload?
A rather confusing brochure doesn't actually tell you the payload for the Proace. But after doing some calculations the Toyota Proace has a payload ranging from 975kg to 1,458kg.
It's not entirely clear what this includes but we will assume it is without a driver and fuel but including all other fluids.
So that's the mystery of the Toyota Proace payloads partly solved, but we can look a little deeper into the individual weights of the van.
The Toyota Proace comes in a confusing array of different gross vehicle weights with a 2.6-tonne, 2.8-tonne and 3.1-tonne variants.
Listed against each of the variants are GVWs ranging from 2635kg, 2660kg, 2760kg, 2830kg, 2940kg, 3060kg and 3100kg.
Confused? We certainly are.
So we are going to take a closer look at the models.
Below is a table with each of the of models showing the maximum payload for each Proace van.
We've taken the Gross Vehicle Weight of the van and subtracted the kerbweight to give you the difference of the payload. The kerbweight is unlikely to include the weight of a driver and in this case seems unlikely to include fuel. We will assume it is the kerb weigth of a Toyota Proace that's primed adn ready to hit the road with all its oils and coolant onboard.
Toyota Proace | Payload (kg) |
---|---|
1.5 Diesel 100hp manual MWB | 975 |
1.5 Diesel 120hp manual MWB | 1079 |
2.0 Diesel 140hp manual MWB | 1458ย |
2.0 Diesel 180hp auto MWB | 1079 |
2.0 Diesel 140hp manual LWB | 1415 ย |
It might also be necessary to know the individual axle weights of your van as these are the maximum amounts you can carry on either the front or rear axle.
Why do I need to know that, you're asking?
Well, if you place a heavy load in your van that weight is going to be supported across one of more axles, depending where you put it. Place it right at the back of the van near the rear doors and it's likely to all be sitting on the rear axle. That can put it at risk of being overloaded.
The table below will give you an idea of the full range of weights as well as the Toyota Proace towing capacity which we have done a seperate guide on.
Toyota Proace has a maximum front axle weight of 1500kg for all panel van models.
Toyota Proace has a maximum rear axle weight of 1500kg for all 100hp, 120hp and 180hp models, while the 2-litre 140 variants have a 1800kg rating.
This is a little harder to say as the exact details of the Proace payload isn't specified so we might not be comparing apples with apples. However, the Toyota Proace is built by Stellantis and therefore shares its DNA with the other Stellantis Pro One vans. That way we can be sure that the Citroen Dispatch payload, the Fiat Scudo payload, the Peugeot Expert payload and the Vauxhall Vivaro payload will all be broadly the same as the Toyota Proace - even if Toyota likes to fudge-up the numbers.
Whatever the case is, even in the advertising literature they're showing the Proace brimming with payload - or in this case boxes of fish. So it can't be too bad.
